Call Of Duty Cheater Banned After Bragging On Twitch

A CoD streamer has been banned from Twitch after accidentally revealing himself to be using cheating software.

As the saying goes, cheaters never prosper, and that appears to be the case for at least one Call of Duty player streaming on Twitch. During a recent broadcast on Twitch, a streamer accidentally revealed himself to be a cheater in Call of Duty: Warzone. This caught the attention of Twitch itself, which banned him from the service for his conduct. Justice has been served, at least in this instance.

While bragging about how good he was at Warzone recently, streamer MrGolds had his screen showing a Windows task manager. However, underneath that window was the cheating program EngineOwning, something that didn't go unnoticed by viewers. (It's certainly bold to be that careless while bragging about how good you are.) The clip was shared online through tweets like the one below, which called for his stream to be reported to Twitch. His Twitch account is no longer available, apparently having been banned by the streaming service. It's unclear if or when he'll be back.

EngineOwning (which we will not link to here) advertises itself as an "undetected" cheat system for big-name shooters. That might be true for the game software itself, but eagle-eyed viewers weren't going to let him get away with it. The program has several settings related to "aimbot" tools, making it rather funny that he was bragging about his gunplay in the clip at the time his cheating was discovered.

Cross-play with other platforms in CoD: Modern Warfare has expanded the pool of players' experiences who can be disrupted by cheaters on PC, so any steps that CoD's developers can take to curb cheating is arguably more important than ever. A recent legal action saw another Call of Duty cheats site remove its cheat software.

Just earlier this month, Infinity Ward stressed that it would be rolling out more bans for accounts that were using third-party software, so it shouldn't come as a surprise if more players using these sorts of tools are also banned from the game itself. With Warzone also placing cheaters together in their own exclusive lobbies before, perhaps MrGolds can get a taste of his own medicine, too.

With any luck, these policies and systems will carry over to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. It's set to release in November and will bring back Zombies mode along with new content for Warzone and a brand-new multiplayer mode.

The cheating in every game has gotten so out of control that I for one am leaving video games behind me. I refuse to buy the new consoles or any new games if manufacturers, publishers, developers continue to ignore the problem of cheating. It has gotten completely out of control and it seems to me that manufacturers encourage it because they allow strikepaks and cronusmax to be sold even in retail. I'm hanging up my sticks because I can't compete like I used to and it's no fun playing against cheaters.

@Edwinhernandez: cheating is why single player games r the best no one really cares if u cheat or not on them and u dont need to worry about cheaters messing up your fun no matter how u play it

@Edwinhernandez: it was much easier to avoid on consoles before this strange obsession with cross play with PC ruined that.

Now it is just a little easier.

@Edwinhernandez: Well... Just don't play MP games then?

The best games are solo games anyways, MP games are repetitive grinds with a few good ones in the mix, but those are just games that are popular to watch due to their nature, they don't make up gaming as a whole. Far from it.

@Edwinhernandez: Story based games are the bomb. I encourage you to get back into those. Or co-op games (but there aren’t as many of those as there used to).

@gamer112696: It always baffles me when people act like multiplayer games are the only thing that exists. Me personally? I've never even played a multiplayer, unless you count some Mass Effect 3. Single-player games are still a thing, and some are wicked good.

I get that cheating is wrong and he should be banned from Call of Duty for being caught, but I don't get what that has to do with getting banned from Twitch. Twitch is just a streaming platform. I guess you aren't allowed to stream hacking in a single player game either?

@Roman217: Twitch and Twitch streamers have the ability to affect the way that people view games and influence the way that people enjoy them. By not banning people for cheating, you run the risk of contributing to a change in public perception around cheating in multiplayer games. I don't know that Twitch wants to be a platform that encourages people to start cheating in multiplayer games by having popular streamers cheat and troll people online. It's not a positive for anyone, and while it isn't Twitch's business per-se, I think they have some sort of a responsibility to the industry with the amount of viewers that it has on a daily basis to maintain a set of standards that's positive for the industry as a streaming platform for games.

I kind of liken it to Youtube and some of the people that it has banned. I know this is a rabbit hole of potential whataboutism, but to equate it to something that I think everybody can agree on no matter where you come from or what your set of beliefs are, while it's none of Youtube's business and it's just a platform to post videos... it should have some set of standards that disallows rotten garbage like DaddyOFive to post videos of blatant child abuse. How many people watched that channel who have kids of their own and were inspired to "prank" them? It's that sort of a thing I think.

The real answer, because **** corporations, is that it would probably affect Twitch's revenue. If you're a publisher that regularly buys ad space on Twitch and you have a multiplayer game out... you probably don't want to advertise to the world that your game is full of rampant cheating by having streamers actively engaging in cheating.

I really hope they’ll be taking cheaters and the like more seriously next gen since it can make a game more broken than the worst bugs etc…

I’d be surprised if anybody actually tolerates it once they learn what’s going on…biggest reason I’ve quit playing games cold turkey in the past and why I’d never recommend them. They should have a whole team of devoted security experts to help battle this the same way they do with other vulnerabilities; and instead of merely banding them which does nothing I sincerely believe we should start cutting off a finger for every time they’re caught…think I’ll write to my president while such an idea is still possible!

@santinegrete:

I don’t know the full extent of the bans but yeah I agree…the more severe the better obviously. I only think its a slap on the wrist because in reality its not gonna make that person turn a new leaf or give up gaming; especially the people that stand to profit from it.

@sakaixxCheaters are pretty rare and typically get banned quickly. It's not relaly a big concern, and the advantages of PC gaming far outweigh it.

@Dezuria: not fast enough not like these cheaters are creating the cheats, they buy them.

Apparently cheating is big business.

@hell0h: As someone who has played online on consoles for many years, I have some serious doubts about your claims about cheaters since I've never had issues with cheaters on consoles. I'm not saying you can't cheat on console, but it is significantly harder to do so. You have to be playing some online game with a really bad anti cheat system or you don't want to admit you're getting outplayed.

@Darkflare_EX: depends on the game. Some games on ps4 there are worse cheats then on PC. Any game that uses client side saves such as D3 or Borderlands is easier to cheat. And some people's definition of cheating is different. Like in D3 just exit game farming to get the right roll on an item some consider cheating others do not.

But if you consider controller mods that do things like auto fire and auto recoil adjust cheating then there is A LOT more cheating going on on console then you think. Heck there are retail versions of this kind of crap now.

@gaeandilth: I think I still have a PS3 Borderlands save file with a hacked shield that made me invincible that someone gave me. At least Borderlands doesn't have any serious PvP.

I dislike controller mods because it's hard to tell who's using them.abd who's being legit. I had people accuse me of using them when I used a semi auto pistol in BO3 even though I just have a very fast trigger finger(and they added a firecap to it in a later patch)

@Darkflare_EX: I think I once met cheaters on a Call of Duty game... But it's been a while ago. I think it was on WW2, but I'm not sure.

@LVT_PTA_PB: Dunno about WW2, but I know that the PS3 CoDs have definitely been cracked and do have cheaters in them, but they showed up late.into the game's lifespan so I at least got my enjoyment. Never noticed anything out of the ordinary on the PS4 games, but I didn't play those as much.
