Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Getting Its Own Prequel Comic Book

Call of Duty fans looking to dive deeper into the story of Call of Duty: Black Ops III may be happy to learn that Dark Horse Comics has announced a new comic book series based on the upcoming shooter.

The series serves as a prequel to the game, with the first issue following an "elite squad" of cybernetically enhanced soldiers who journey through Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to track down a double agent. "But as they close in, the operatives uncover something much more sinister at hand," reads a line from the official synopsis.

Yep, that sounds like Call of Duty.

The Black Ops III comic series is written by Larry Hama (G.I. Joe), featuring illustrations from Marcelo Ferreria (Transformers, TMNT).

Dark Horse will hand out free copies of a special Black Ops III minicomic at San Diego Comic-Con next week, before the full issue arrives November 4 for $4.

Black Ops III itself launches worldwide on November 6 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

The Call of Duty series is not typically known for its narrative, but Black Ops III developer Treyarch recently explained why it thinks the new game will tell a better story.
