Buzz! Quiz World Hands-On

Buzz is back on the PlayStation Portable again, and we check in with Sony to see what's new.

There always seems to be a new Buzz game coming out, but that's because people love their trivia and can't get enough of the flappy-mouth host. Buzz! Quiz World for the PlayStation Portable will have online infrastructure for the first time, so you will be able to challenge the best of the best anywhere in the world. At Sony's PSP Go event yesterday, we got a chance to check out a couple of modes to see what this game has to offer.

Who's Making This Game: Buzz is developed by Relentless Software and is published by Sony Computer Entertainment of America.

What The Game Looks Like: From the two modes we've played, the game looks really similar to the previous PSP version of Buzz. The question will appear at the top, and if there is a visual component, it will be located on the left. Your answers, which are tied to your face buttons, are lined up on the right. The demo was incredibly short, so we didn't get a chance to see Buzz in action or see what kind of wacky avatar heads we could choose from. Buzz is known for its presentation, however, and it does retain a clean, polished look, but we didn't get to see enough of the game to notice any major changes.

What Is There To Do: Answer trivia. There are four quiz boards in the single-player mode, and there's a six-player Pass Around mode if you want to take turns with some friends. This is the first time that online infrastructure is supported, and there are more than 3,000 general-knowledge questions to go through. Once you've mastered those, there will be additional content to download via the PlayStation Store. Quiz Packs will be available, but we weren't given details as to what kind of themes or how many questions these packs would include.

Like with the PlayStation 3 Buzz! Quiz TV, you can go online to the MyBuzz site to submit your own trivia questions as well as download content from others.

How The Game Is Played: Trivia is all multiple choice, so you only have to use the face buttons to choose the right answer. Our demo had virus mode, a timed question in which you have to pick the answer while the picture is coming into focus. The faster you answer, the higher your score. Questions range from counting the number of items that are in the photo to determining what country a famous landmark is located in.

The other mode we played was Double or Nothing, in which you answer random trivia questions--which tend to focus on pop culture--and if you get the answer right, you can choose to keep your 200 points or try for 400. If you're willing to risk your points, you are taken to a grid where there are more 0s than 400s and a white square will shuffle around randomly. You hit X to stop it and hope that it lands on 400.

What They Say: Buzz! Quiz World provides an ultrarealistic quiz show experience, putting you and your friends in the contestants' seats.

What We Say: Buzz has proven to be a great party game, and if you just can't get enough of trivia and must take it on the go, Buzz! Quiz World with its Quiz Packs and MyBuzz support will make sure that you never run out of questions. The game is expected to ship sometime in November and will be priced at 19.99.
