Braid Anniversary Edition Confirmed For April Release

The remastered indie darling will hit consoles, PC, and mobile in the spring.

15 years ago, the indie platformer Braid first launched, and it became one of the most critically acclaimed games of its generation. Thekla Inc. is hoping lightning can strike twice, as the company has announced that Braid Anniversary Edition--an updated version of the indie darling--is coming on April 30.

Braid follows the adventure of a young hero who is trying to save a kidnapped princess, but all is not as it seems. The game's main mechanic was the ability to manipulate time while traveling through its world, as it let players rewind with every mistake and attempt an obstacle in a different way.

Updates coming in the Braid Anniversary Edition include the following:

  • Improved sound effects
  • Newly recorded soundtrack mixes
  • Updated graphics repainted by hand by original game artist David Hellman
  • Extra frames of animation, which enable smoother in-game motions
  • The ability to switch between the updated and original versions at will

The Anniversary Edition will also offer over 15 hours of commentary from members of the original development team, a group which includes creator Jonathan Blow, sound designer Hans Christian Kock, sound designer/composer Martin Stig Andersen, programmer Casey Muratori, and more.

Braid Anniversary Edition is set to launch April 30, 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and mobile devices exclusively through the Netflix app. A Mac and Linux version of the game will be released "at a later date."
