Blur trails the top 10 pack

Top-selling Red Dead Redemption holds its ground and UFC 2010: Undisputed debuts at two, but Blur fails to break the UK top 10 in its first week.

Though UFC 2010: Undisputed broke into the UK's sales chart at number two last week, performing admirably in the shadow of Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption, the next-highest new entry in the chart isn't even in the top 10. Sega's espionage role-playing game Alpha Protocol debuts at 13, with Activision's power-up-littered racer Blur coming in behind that at 14.

UFC 2010: Undisputed, THQ's mixed martial arts title, has bumped 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa down a spot, as well as chart mainstays Just Dance and Wii Fit Plus. Disney racer Split/Second: Velocity, meanwhile, also slips down a place, dropping from fifth to sixth in its second week.

Blur: slow out of the box.

The much-delayed Alpha Protocol so far appears destined for relative obscurity, despite initial promise. And Blur's underwhelming first-week sales will come as a surprise disappointment to publisher Activision, given the generally positive critical reception ahead of the game's release and substantial multiplayer beta. It could be that racing game fans had already opted for Split/Second: Velocity, another racer-with-a-hook, which beat Blur to market by just a few days.

In the tradition of the summer gaming lull, the release schedule for the first weeks of June is on the quiet side. There's the Sims 3: Ambitions expansion out on June 4, mind you, and then Super Mario Galaxy 2 on June 11 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP on June 18.
