BlizzCon 2019 Rumors & Leaks: Diablo 4 And Overwatch 2 Possible

Leaks suggest Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 will be announced at BlizzCon 2019.

BlizzCon, the annual gaming convention held by World of Warcraft developer Blizzard Entertainment, kicks off next week on November 1. The rumor mill has already begun to swirl ahead of the event, with leaks and rumors pointing toward upcoming announcements for new games in both the Diablo and Overwatch series. [Update: New rumored details on Overwatch 2 have emerged courtesy of ESPN, which reports that the game will include a PvE mode and new maps, heroes, and modes. BlizzCon officially begins later this week, so we should know soon if any of these details are indeed true.]

An advertisement for a book called "The Art of Diablo" was recently published in the latest issue of German magazine GameStar, inadvertently revealing that a Diablo 4 announcement might be on the horizon. The ad says that the book features "over 500 artworks from Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo III, and Diablo IV." A Diablo 4 reveal wouldn't be too surprising considering Blizzard has previously said it has multiple Diablo projects in the works. The one we know about is Diablo Immortal, the upcoming mobile game.

Now Playing: Blizzcon 2019 Schedule Revealed, Includes Overwatch, StarCraft, & More - GS News Update

No Caption Provided

The Art of Diablo is currently available to pre-order on Amazon with a listed release date of November 3 (the final day of this year's BlizzCon). The book is authored by Jake Gerli and features contributions from senior Blizzard writer Robert Brooks.

Twitch streamer Metro says Diablo 4 and a remaster of Diablo 2 will be announced at BlizzCon. He also posted a series of Tweets detailing the potential reveal of Overwatch 2. Normally leaks and rumors spread around Twitter are to be taken with a grain of salt, but Metro has a track record of leaking Blizzard and Overwatch news after he revealed new hero Ashe a week before the official announcement at last year's BlizzCon.

Metro says his source is "someone tied directly to a Blizzard dev" and notes that Overwatch 2 will be revealed at this year's BlizzCon after a short cinematic featuring heroes including Mei, Tracer, Winston, and a younger Genji. He adds that the potential sequel will include both PvE and PvP, and the new levelling system will change certain abilities for each hero; "For example, there will be an upgrade/change to Tracer's pulsebomb that makes it so if you stick an opponent, all units close to the target that got stuck will also be stuck with a pulsebomb."

A report earlier this year suggested that a Starcraft first-person shooter was in development at Blizzard but was cancelled so the developer could focus its efforts on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. We'll know more next week when BlizzCon opens its doors on November 1.

Blizzard will be hoping to shift the focus to its upcoming games after a controversial week that began with the company banning a Hearthstone pro after he voiced support for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong. The company partially rescinded its punishment to Ng Wai Chung aka "Blitzchung," as well as the punishments given to American University students who protested in solidarity. This has done little to quell the controversy, however, especially since Blizzard is now reportedly banning users in its Twitch chat who express support for Hong Kong. A protest is due to take place during the first day of BlizzCon.

How do you create an entire OW2. The amount of hero and ability variety in OW is already crazy that coming up with 1 new hero seems daunting. Making 20 new heroes and maps and mechanics seems crazy to me.

My one wish for D4 is that it'll be just the real money auction house. The game would consist of clicking on a big ornate button for hours on end, that'd drop you loot 2-3 times a day. You could then proceed to the real part of the game that is the Auction House where you could try to sell your hard earnt loot. And if you've managed to sell your stuff, you could upgrade to a bigger and better ornate button that'd have 0.01% chance to drop loot. Upgrades would cost real money.

Blizzard died and went to Activision, where suffering pain and torment amount to a normal Tuesday at the office. Lolz

May they always reap what they sow.

Just started thinking more about the state of the world and the big companies. But guys i m curious, genuinely, not trolling, what are you playing? Ea, ubisoft, activision blizzard, are clearly lying or using abusive tactics. Rockstar and Sony are still making good games, but you shouldnt mistake them for the good guys. Look at the anti consumer deals Sony is promoting and screwing over every other platform. Look at their stance on forced pay to play online. Look at their cancelation of the fan favourite multiplayer mode on tlou2 etc.. Rockstar s online portion of the games is literally pay to win, with game winning micro transctions, while they are neglecting the health of the online game which is ruined with hackers on pc. They are doing nothing about it and yet they sell stuff for real money like its noje of their business. And you think the indie titles are your savior? Many of them are just liars running away with your early access money or promising things they cant achieve. They are still some genuine indie devs out there but they are few and far between and good luck trying to find a game genre you enjoy based on that, which will still be to your liking after it exists early access(if you even can wait that long) Dont get me wrong i m not hating just to hate, i m expressing my opinion on how i see things right now and i would like to discuss them. I have already pre ordered modern warfare as i didnt think about my purchase clearly, in terms of who i m supporting i mean, i do support them with my money in the end, but as of now i cant come up with any other idea. I m kinda lost with humanitys tendency to destory it self.

@mixalislinkinparkftw: While I agree about shady companies, the state of Rockstar's Online garbage, and the taint of microtransactions in otherwise solo games, the bit about Sony is a bit off.

I don't defend certain marketing tactics that they employ, but TLoU? Lol. Naughty Dog obviously didn't want to chip in to support a tacked-on mode for an old PS3 game, remastered or otherwise. Sony only charges to play on PSN servers. Some games rely upon their own infrastructure for multi-player support, and a PS Plus subscription is not required. (Elite Dangerous, Final Fantasy XIV, etc.)

Indies are alive and well, although surviving the development has changed--and not entirely for the better. You can thank Steam and mobile markets for contributing to the modern vapor/crapware model. There are still some beacons of creativity that suggest that not all hope is lost.

@yeknomdab: Thanks for your reply . Well i see your point. So the servers of lets say red dea online are handled by sony ?Again genuine question .I know they have to balance the server cost , but these things used to be free. Now we are paying for them. What stops them from slowly increasing their bad approach?

Well I loved tlou on ps3,played the story twice ,but to me the single player holds immense value. I spent 50+ hours there i think. And it was really well made if you ask me,though they managed to add pay to win microtransactions there as well lol . It seems that there is a following for tlou multiplayer. I understand their approach, but to me 60$ for a single player only title(especially when the prequel had a good enough multiplayer mode) isnt worth it. Again thats me. I know that this was the mindset that lead to so many games having tacked on multiplayer just for the sake of it,just like spec ops the line, but thats how i feel. You could argue that 15 hours of excellent and complete story that will probably have an impact on you as a person is much better than trying to please everyone and you will be right but thats how i feel. only responsible for what im doing and willing to do ,and not about attitudes that my own actions is promoting to other people right?

The mobile market is literally the waste of humanity and i m not even exaggerating.

Yeah steam isnt really as pro consumer as people are promoting it to be either, i ve read that it takes 30% off cut from each game purchase which to me sounds insane.. Especially when talking about indie titles.

What are you thoughts on AAA games? Do you support them although you know they are scummy ? Which indie games would you support with passion ? I ve been playing celeste recently and it seems really uplifting for society as a whole imo.

In the end my biggest downfall is that i can see both sides, and sympathize too much with each one of them lol . I should probably use the willpower that everyone has in them to choose a side i guess.

@mixalislinkinparkftw: I definitely try to see things from as many angles as I can, but it has become difficult to defend many aspects of gaming that have become "the norm."

I know several people who like(d) TLoU's MP, and I feel for them. Hell, by the time that I get around to playing many games, communities have risen and died before my late arrival.

There's nothing wrong with big-budget titles that remember to respect their players, but sadly that seems to have fallen out of fashion. Indies are a giant bag of mixed nuts, but the best seem to avoid industry tropes in development and "features." Children of Morta should be interesting when I find time to dive into it.

This is so true. Well the thing with AAAs is that they even if they manage to respect their customers, they may do harm in the world in other ways. For example maybe they are mistreating their employees(cd projekt red forced huge working overtimes in some cases, the whole witcher 3 being different close to launch as opposed to when they first showed it etc, i think you get my point). They may use marketing tactics or other stuff that is not that ethical, while still treating the players who play the game good. At the end of the day they are huge companies, and i dont know if its even possible to survive in that place for long without initiating in unacceptable practices .

Granted we don't have much to go on yet but if the early indications are accurate, Overwatch 2 sounds a lot more like Overwatch v1.60.0.0.0000.

I don't get the point in Overwatch 2 other than money... but that's the only point you really need anyway. Imagine convincing people to buy another game and making them rebuild their collection of skins, all for this illusion of "new" that could've been done with the current game.

It would only make sense for them to finally announce a D2 remaster, looking at how many people have been waiting for it. But with Blizzard you never know. They might just announce another mobile game instead. Or they might not after the massive backlash they got with the Diablo mobile game. Is that game actually still in development or have they silently cancelled it? I haven't heard anything whatsoever about it since its announcement. Maybe the Chinese will appreciate it more.

I don't see why we need to protest. Blizzard is a company: it doesn't care about human rights or your feelings, just your money. Just don't attend Blizzcon and boycott all their games, that's when they will really start to feel the pain.

Every competent or passionate developer left the company, so I don't understand why this news should get people's hype on. Milking Overwatch does seem the best they can do at the moment.

Why an Overwatch 2? That seems strange. The game is only 3 years old, and that is the type of game that can easily just keep adding heros and maps and be dragged out for 10 years. Unless they plan major overhauls, a sequel seems pointless.

@RELeon: Seriously. People rag on Valve for not making more games but Team Fortress 2 has been consistent in its delivery and longevity because they haven't replaced it with a new version where you lose all your stuff every few years.

Any game news will be overshadowed by people protesting Blizzard bending the knee to China. There’s already multiple and large protests planned.

Honestly they should cancel BlizzCon because it’s going to be a train wreck

But Overwatch 2 makes absolutely zero sense to me.

@linthenius: Originally the rumour was O2 WAS just a campaign mode that included access to the multiplayer.

Not sure why that wouldn't make sense, though. We're talking about the same company that releases yearly CoW sequels.

i will be interested to see both diablo 4 and overwatch 2 if they come out anytime soon.. remember even if they announce them soon, they could still be years away.

BUT, i'm not exactly holding my breath... keep the expectations low and if they are good then that's great.. if they are not then oh well, go do something else.

Didn't Blizzard say a sequel to Overwatch wouldn't be warranted anytime soon since the game will be a platform and will grow for many years to come? Overwatch was released merely 3 years ago in 2016.

Anyways, I am excited about the prospects of a Diablo 4. I just hope the game looks aesthetically closer to Diablo 2 than Diablo 3. In addition, I would like to see the return of a talent tree system.

@Thanatos2k: Which is exactly the problem with the company now: this ever heavy-handed encroachment of Blizzard Activision on a once autonomous Blizzard. Blizzard claims to have the same independent spirit now as it did many years before, but its actions seem to state otherwise.

@USDevilDog: At this point there is no Blizzard, it's just Activision. Just like Bioware is now EA. They still use the name Blizzard because the brand still has value. Once it doesn't (that day is approaching quickly, if not already here), they'll drop the pretense.

Overwatch 2 would be a gigantic slap in the face.

They need to just release an expansion for Overwatch and let it plug in to the old game. I'm so tired of numbered installments in FPS so they can recharge you for the same content again.

Blizzard really isn't the company it used to be.

Announcing Diablo 4 or a brand new IP that isn't mobile or remotely catered to the Chinese market is the ONLY thing that will even begin to help pull Blizzard out of the monumental pile of flaming shit they're in.

But something tells me that there's going to be more stuff to crop up that Blizzard will think is good for the community, but only ingrain more backlash for being so god damn out of touch with what made them so popular and beloved in the first place.
