With three days to go, the campaign stands at $684,612 from close to 14,000 total backers. The project was originally asking for $650,000.

The previous Kickstarter record-holder for a documentary was For the Love of Spock, a movie about Leonard Nimoy from his son, Adam Nimoy.

The Bill Nye Film aims to be the "definitive" movie about Bill Nye, whom kids in the 1990s and 2000s probably know well from his educational, science-themed videos.

The movie has Nye's full support, and is being directed by junior filmmakers David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg, but they are not doing it alone. They've brought on Academy Award-winner Seth Gordon (Undefeated, King of Kong) to produce the film, which aims to offer an "all-access backstage pass to Bill's epic quest to change the world."

You can secure a copy of The Bill Nye Film for a pledge of $25. The movie is filming now and is expected to be available through streaming services in June 2017.
