Beyond Good & Evil price drops

[UPDATED] Retailers are heavily discounting Ubisoft's acclaimed adventure title.

Bargain hunters looking to pick up a cheap gift for their favorite PlayStation 2 gamer (or themselves) may be in luck. Circuit City is currently selling the PS2 edition of Beyond Good & Evil for just $9.99. The title is already out of stock on the electronics retailer's Web site, but it reportedly can still be found in Circuit City's outlets, albeit in rapidly shrinking numbers.

Circuit City has given no official reason for the massive discount, which will end this weekend. However, some industry insiders are speculating that critical praise did not translate into good sales for Beyond Good & Evil and that the retailer is doing some post-holiday inventory-pruning. This theory is borne out by the fact that EB Games has slashed the price of the PC and Xbox versions of the game to $19.99, the same price Amazon is hawking the PS2 and Xbox editions for. Rumors have also begun to swirl that a similar price drop may be in store for the GameCube version of the game, although no concrete discounts have surfaced.
