So it's a bit nutty but I jumped on a plane as soon as I hit town Wednesday morning from Japan and headed out to Comic-con. Why? Well honestly one of the reasons was a Beowulf screening last night. As you see on the site, Ubisoft is working on a game based on the upcoming CG flick. Comic-con is basically where they start talking about it and, as part of their chattiness about the game, they got some gaming press in along with others to see a swanky teaser for the flick which was followed by a Q&A with Neil Gaiman and Robert Avery. Before I go off on how sweet the thing looked here's some background: so I've had a soft spot for the Beowulf story since college. One of my profs was really into it, she wrote some books on the subject, and once I committed to wading through the epic poem's over 3,000 lines of prose I realized it was a pretty cool story. But I always figured it would probably never be something that would make it out to the masses.

Imagine my surprise when I hear about the flick and the game. Somewhere I could hear my prof leaping into the air since she always felt there was a lot to the story and that it would resonate with more than just English majors. Of course I think we're all a little leery of CG movies these days considering how hit and miss anything but Pixar flicks are. So I have to say I went in expecting little, I mean the whole 3D glasses waiting for us at the screening seemed like the 3D stuff was being tossed in to sex it up. Instead the movie's 3D look makes an amazing looking movie stand out all the more. We got to see close to 20 minutes or so of the flick and it was pretty impressive. Think Final Fantasy Spirits Within but without everyone sweating the technology and focused more on the traditional cinematic stuff like shot framing and whatnot.

Anyhoo, about to run off to the convention center which should be crazy. There was a fat grip of people there last night for preview night (most I think I've ever seen there ever). So I reckon today should be something else. Oh and as a final sidenote one of the cool perks of coming here is bumping into fans of the site. One very cool dude actually turned into an impromptu guide which was pretty generous of him. If you see us come say hi.
