One of 2004's most anticipated PC games moved closer to release today, when Electronic Arts announced that Battlefield Vietnam had gone gold. Due March 15, the first-person shooter is rated "T" for "Teen" and will retail for $39.99.

Battlefield Vietnam will drop players into some of the most intense battles of the Southeast Asian theater. Developed by Digital Illusions, the game will include numerous jungle maps as well as more varied settings like the urban battle of Hue.

Like its precursor, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam will feature authentic vehicles and weapons from its subject conflict. Players can choose between the men and materiel of US forces, North Vietnamese Army regulars, or Vietcong guerrillas. GameSpot's Andrew Park did a brief tour of duty with the game in his hands-on preview.
