Battlefield 5 Reveal Event Confirmed, Here's When It's Happening

"The future of Battlefield is coming up."

[Update] An official event page for the Battlefield 5 world premiere has appeared, confirming it will be revealed on "May 6 at 4 PM ET/9 PM BST. EA will provide "a first look at the future of Battlefield" on its Twitch page.

"Get insight into the minds of the developers as you hear from the creative director Lars Gustavsson and lead producer Aleksander Grondal on the past, present and the future of Battlefield," reads a press release sent to GameSpot.

[Original story] EA will reveal Battlefield 5 on May 6, according to a report from German website Play3.de, which claims to have confirmed the information from official sources.

The site goes on to say it will be unveiled at 8 PM CET to press, with a livestream of the event to follow at 10 PM CET. It has also published an excerpt from the invitation, which has been translated from German below.

No Caption Provided

"The future of Battlefield is coming up and you are invited to the world premiere," it reads. "On May 6, we will reveal the next milestone in the Battlefield franchise. Come and meet our creative team at DICE."

In October 2014, publisher EA confirmed a new entry in the Battlefield series will ship in 2016. Chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen said it planned to have a new shooter yearly, and would followup Star Wars Battlefront with a Battlefield.

"What we've said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles," he replied. "This year it's Star Wars: Battlefront. Next year, it's another Battlefield title."

It was previously teased that the Battlefield series will return to "military-style game" and is already shaping up to be a "fun, new Battlefield."

EA also previously said Mass Effect Andromeda Titanfall 2, and Battlefield 5 would be out during fiscal year 2017, which runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017. A teaser for TitanFall 2 has been released and EA plans to fully reveal it on June 12.

2015's Star Wars: Battlefront was also developed by DICE, which is responsible for the core entries in the Battlefield series. DICE has laid out plans to release free and paid expansions for Battlefront in the future.

@rosinmonkekyx17: WW1 would be interesting, I am curious to see how it would work. I can only picture shooting enemies from trench to trench, and getting mowed down by a machine gun when you run across. But if there is a dev who can pull it off and make it fun, it's Dice.

@thefishe: How do you make static and proxy warfare fun? Even if they added tanks they would be SLOW as hell and not even nearly as useful as they were from 1942 on and planes would be even more of a joke.

I keep hoping for a Bad Company announcement... My buddy and I had a blast playing those games, making sure to find every gold bar in the first one and shooting down every tree possible.... Then angering him because I could basically snipe with a shotgun in the SP campaign....

@shadeslayer-: all good points, but I think (hope) they could make it work. There was still plenty of "regular" battles in WWI. Plus adding attack dogs, chemical warfare, actual horse Calvary, etc could add a different dimension. I agree it could be a challenge that could cause them to fall flat. Again, my first preference would be a Bad Company 3. If they go futuristic I would just as soon they skip any campaign and go back to their roots with just a bunch of great maps.

@bastiat: I like the idea of attack dogs and horse calvary. I wonder how the dogs would work on a big open map though. I remember it working on CODWAW, but those maps are significantly smaller. Horse calvary...maybe I just suck at riding horses...but I'm having flashbacks to MGS5, Roach from Witcher 3, Epona from LoZ...It would be very hard to pull off a first person shooter with horseback action.

BFBC3: I still believe! One day, they'll answer our plight.

Why does everyone want a WWI game so bad. I see the historic appeal myself, love the era, and it's really interesting. But the claustrophobic nature of trench warfare, the weapons are rather limited, vehicle's are limited...it's actually everything that Battlefield isn't.
When you play any Battlefield game, you know you can expect massive, open maps, a wide range of weapons (not to mention the attachments and practically infinite loadout combinations), and vehicles by land, air, and sea.

I know I stand in the minority here, but I just don't think it would be fun, and fun sells, which is obviously what EA cares about most. Imagine those reload times...standard weapons are bolt action, any semiautomatic weapons would be pistols...and for a game's balancing sake, the semiauto weapons would be less powerful. Not to be a downer but this doesn't sound like a good idea at all..

You'd be taking out all the things that make a Battlefield game a Battlefield game.

@shadeslayer-: That what makes it WW1...

A battlefield game is a game that takes place on a battlefield in a setting

So if it took place in WW1, just because they have limited weapons, it's no longer a battlefield game?

@rosinmonkekyx17:

Uh sorry m8, try again...

Call of Duty has "Battlefields" does that make Call of Duty a Battlefield?

There's a formula that every Battlefield game has. WW1 would not satisfy this formula because of the limitations of the time period. The formula for Battlefield uses:

Big maps (not call of duty sized maps) + wide range of weapons and attachments + vehicles by air, land, and sea = Battlefield

WW1 maps would be hard to make because of the trench warfare utilized in the time period. I'm sure there were parts of the war that took place outside of trenches, but definitely not the majority of it. Much of it was spent dug in a foxhole or trench, hoping not to get blown up by a mortar strike. WW1 weapons are extremely limited, almost every soldier used a bolt action rifle, and any captain who had a semiautomatic weapon had a pistol, or revolver. For balancing purposes, the bolt action will be stronger than the pistol. And of course there would be a gatling gun somewhere on the map, absolutely terrorizing everyone because all they have is a bolt action rifle that doesn't shoot straight. Lets not forget that there would be absolutely no attachments for weapons. Finally, vehicles, I want you to go onto Google Images and just search 'WW1 vehicles,' do you see why this is a terrible idea? Almost all the vehicles used were just for transport, and if they had a weapon attached, they couldn't swivel, they only shoot straight ahead.

Do you honestly think that everything I laid out here would make for a fun game? This would be hellish. I wouldn't mind if some other company made a WW1 game, but don't waste EA and DICE's money on a lame idea like this.

Look at the reality of the situation. The last 10 years of Battlefield games had everything in that formula I listed. They're not going to retract 10 years of history to sell one measly game for the History Aficionado.

Do you honestly think that EA cares about the 3 internet history buffs, when they could sell a game to 3 million little kids who don't give two shits about history? No, because it's a business, and "screw you give me money."

I didn't say anything about automatic weapons. There's nothing implied. I didn't insinuate anything, you just read into something that wasn't there. Congratulations detective, you win nothing.

It's pretty limited, dude. I've done my research.

Get over your pretentious attitude, and use those amazing literary skills you've got to read up on why WW1 would be a terribad game setting for DICE's Battlefield.

I feel like you're still hung up on this "google images" thing. Like, you're right bro, maybe I should've gone to the library and looked at the pictures in a book. You know, because those pictures are different from the ones on the internet. I'm also 12 years old and don't know what a fake image looks like. Damn. You're so smart dude. Papa blessed you so hard.

It's 2016, amigo. I spend enough time at the library for school, I don't need books if the internet has good information on it. I know your teacher says internet information is the devil, but grow a brain for yourself and you'll find out that it's not true, you just have to know where to look. Before you think you know EVERYTHING, get blessed on, nerd.

You still haven't listed a single fact about WW1 proving me wrong. So kindly, get papa blessed, babe.

Personally I'd love to see them scrap the whole idea of a SP campaign, instead focus all resources on MP, and give us more than 8 maps! It worked to the benefit of the older BF titles... but I feel like they're going to pump out another generic SP portion just for the sake of it.

@nl_skipper: I know in theory that makes sense....but SW Battlefront is proof that lack of a single player makes no difference in Multiplayer. Look at Rainbow Six Siege as well. These companies will do anything they can to squeeze a dime out of us.

I hope one of 2 things...they either go back to WWII (or WWI) or do another Bad Company game. Bad company 2 was the last good single player campaign and arguably the best dlc with the Vietnam expansion

The DLC names don't sound like WW2 though. Only the title. I have a feeling it's not going to be WW2, just because EA won't really be able to show off their totally rad lens flares as often. I think it's going to be in the future honestly. What I'm thinking is that Eastern Front doesn't necessarily mean WWII. Eastern Front could mean a return to combat in the East. Like many Battlefield games, the bad guys are Russians. Expecting a future war setting between US and RU. So you'll just see some Russian themed maps then?

"The FUTURE of Battlefield is coming up and you are invited to the world premiere.."

Oh gawd no....Dice is going the crap-tacular futuristic style that CoD devolved into. Cops and robbers didn't take so be prepared to shoot laser guns, jet jump and ride in mechs. (Humm sound familiar?)

@Gravity_Slave: Actually sounds pretty awesome. A Titanfall/Battlefield mashup would be pretty neat. I know Titanfall wasn't received well, but I think it would've been better if it had more players on the same map. Battlefield prides itself in that regard. 64 player matches, throw in some mechs (maybe make them attainable through skill though), and I could see some really fun gameplay come out of it.
