EA has announced that the Battlefield 2: Modern Combat has gone gold for the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox. Modern Combat is the first game in the popular PC shooter series to make its way to consoles, and it will support online multiplayer games for up to 24 players simultaneously, along with a full single-player campaign that makes use of the game's "hotswapping" feature, which lets players instantaneously take control of different characters in play. Both modes will arm players with modern-day weaponry and let them get behind the wheel of more than 30 different vehicles.

The game will feature four major factions, including the US, the European Union, China, and the fictitious Middle Eastern Coalition, which originally appeared in this year's similarly titled PC shooter Battlefield 2. Modern Combat will make its way to store shelves on October 25 with an ESRB rating of T for Teen and a suggested retail price of $49.99. The Xbox 360 version of the game is scheduled for release later this year.
