Larian Studios has announced that a new update for Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S is out now to fix an issue pertaining to saves that could disappear in certain scenarios.

Posting on social media, Larian said the "small update" is out now and it should fix the problem. Players are advised to manually update their game to apply the update. This update is coming from Xbox itself, suggesting it was related to a problem on Microsoft's side.

Baldur's Gate 3 initially launched in August for PC before coming to PlayStation in September. The Xbox edition was surprise-released on December 7 during The Game Awards.

Larian boss Swen Vincke said he was supposed to announce the release date for Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox during an acceptance speech for one of the many awards the game won. He apparently forgot to.

The Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 had been the subject of much discussion after it was reported that issues with the Xbox Series S might have been holding back its release due. Larian had a meeting with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and an agreement was made to launch Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox Series S without split-screen support. This could be added at some point in the future.

In GameSpot's Baldur's Gate 3 review, Jake Dekker gave the game a 10/10, writing, "The freedom that [Baldur's Gate 3] offers is unprecedented, and it takes a little while to really see the scope of what that means for the game. At times, the sheer number of choices and consequences can be overwhelming. But before long, it becomes apparent that Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to be the authors of their own destinies in a way no other game has before."
