Yesterday, EA and DICE rolled out the VIP Map Pack 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of 2009's highly regarded Battlefield: Bad Company 2. A free add-on for those who purchased the game new or bought a VIP pass, Map Pack 3 recombined a handful of previously available options, opening up the Squad Deathmatch mode for the Nelson Bay map, while the Laguna Alta playfield opened up to Squad Rush.

For gamers willing to pay a price to get a bit more substance, DICE today dated Bad Company 2's first batch of premium downloadable content. Onslaught mode, which introduces co-op play to Bad Company 2, will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 for $10 (800 Microsoft points) on June 22. DICE did not provide an update on whether the Onslaught DLC would be released for the PC, and EA had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Onslaught supports co-op for up to four players.
Onslaught supports co-op for up to four players.

Onslaught mode allows up to four players to engage in a variety of objective-based missions. Gamers' squads will be timed, with performances posted to co-op leaderboards. The DLC also includes additional achievements and trophies.

Beyond Onslaught mode, DICE also said that the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Kit Shortcuts would be available for purchase on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 16. The Kit Shortcuts add-on unlocks all of the accoutrements that would otherwise be restricted to higher-ranked players. However, those who purchase the Kit Shortcuts add-on will still be able to progress the Bad Company 2's leveling system. Individual kits can be purchased for $7 (MSP 560), while the entire payload of unlocks runs for $20 (MSP 1,600).

They need to add bullet wounds in this game and gore...if bullets leave marks on the environment why not the bodies??? If the buildings are destructible why not the enemies? I just don't get it...this game had so much potential.

Unlockable rewards you should earn? Lame. Co-op good. Still no co-op for the campaign? Lame.

These companies will do anything for money. It is getting really sad. What's next? Unlockable achievements? "Hey idiots, just pay us $10 and we will unlock all the achievements for you! Then you can lie to all your friends and brag about doing them, when you actually just got them handed to you for a small fee!"

@ Rocker6 You sound like they are forcing people to buy it. Its a genius idea. If people dont want to spend the time, they can spend the money. Whats wrong with that? I dont play the game anymore, but I'm just saying.

Finally, EA started pricing their DLC. Why am I not surprised? Please don't turn this into MW2, DICE. Please? Though I understand the early unlockable kits, playing as a low rank with all of the 30+ ranked players nowadays would suck.. it was hard for me because of my lack of equipment. But all the same, I'd never pay for that when I'm gonna get it for free with hard work later on. And the new VIP Pack sucks, no one plays Squad Rush or Squad Deathmatch. Onslaught mode sounds cool, but I'm getting tired of these companies promising free DLC with tiny add-ons to the game that were already there, then charging later on.. people like me who bought the game used and needed to pay for a VIP Code feel a tad cheated, admittedly. But eh, it's whatever. like I said, I just hope they don't start charging for a bunch of stupid things that should be VIP unlockable.

Umm, was that a fail at the top of the page? It says up there "Yesterday, EA and DICE rolled out the VIP Map Pack 3 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of 2009's highly regarded Battlefield: Bad Company 2," but it was released in March this year.

Already have all the guns. I have my favorites but they aren't always the later weapons anyway. Early guns can kill too. You don't just become AWESOME because you have the last gun. Knowing the levels and how to play means more than what gun you have anyway. With the weapon pack, please include a unskippable "How to Spot" instructional video before granting access to the weapons. The new mode sounds fun and all but how about some new WIDE maps for Rush mode with fewer bottlenecks. I love BFBC2 but heading to base two on Port Valdez for example gets really old. "Alright team, you head straight down the road, you guys, take the 20ft wide snow bank to the left of the road, and we'll go down the 10ft wide snow bank to the right of the road. They'll never see us coming!"

Finally real DLC. I like how EA does things though i guess. Tell people their VIPs and that their getting free DLC when its really just opening up old maps to new game modes like it they should have been from the start. Then when some real DLC comes along you have to pay. So people think their getting things for free when they really arent. Its just so wrong. Now would be a really good time for a new company to step in to the fold. All they would have to do is not screw people over and bam they could easily take out activision and EA.

Not sure about this DLC, but at least they didn't adopt the $15.00 price point that Activision uses.

Pay to unlock items and no updates for the PC? EA definitely knows how to piss off and alienate gamers.

unlocking the weapons with money? lame, and it takes out the whole point of leveling up and earning gear. the only things that have been for free so far is stuff that we technically already have. those maps are in the game already, but restricted to certain game modes. all that these 3 'map packs' have done is to unlock them. I would never ever pay for VIP if that keeps up. glad I bought the game new though.
