The writing team behind Avengers: Infinity War and its upcoming sequel have shared some very interesting details about the next movie. Speaking to Buzzfeed, writer Christopher Markus said the untitled fourth Avengers movie "doesn't do what you think it does." THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.
Markus added, "It is a different movie than you think it is." Most intriguingly, he teased that the many surprising deaths at the end of Infinity War are "real," at least in some manner. "Also... [the deaths are] real. I just want to tell you it's real, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you will be able to move on to the next stage of grief."
Thanos directly killed Heimdall, Loki, Vision, and Gamora during the events of Infinity War. After he acquired all the Infinity Stones, he snapped his fingers, killing half of the world's population. This claimed the lives of other superheroes such as Bucky, Black Panther, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Mantis, Drax, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Nick Fury, and Maria Hill. Given how much money these characters make in their own movie franchises, it would be incredibly unlikely that they all remain dead. While their deaths might have been "real" in Infinity War, that doesn't necessarily mean they are gone forever.
Avengers 4 is going to be a "mature" movie, co-writer Stephen McFeely added. McFeely went on to say that Marvel is going to "own these choices," regarding what happened in Infinity War, and that's intriguing to think about.
"We're going to own these choices, and hopefully surprise and delight you and get you invested," he said. "It's by the same studio, the same filmmaking team. They were written at the same time, shot at the same time. They're clearly connected, but they are definitely two different movies, one of which is dependent on what happened previous."
Markus added: "We broke your heart. Now we're going to blow your mind."

Infinity War made more than $640 million worldwide during its opening week, dethroning Star Wars: The Force Awakens to set a new all-time record. The next MCU film is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which comes to theatres in July; Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson comes out in March 2019. Avengers 4 opens in May 2019.
