The latest Animal Crossing has sold a staggering amount, and Switch console sales are also up.

Nintendo's first fiscal quarter was a good one for both software and hardware sales, especially when it came to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The company has released its Q1 earnings report and the sales figures for the Switch and its biggest first-party games are mightily impressive.

New Horizons is now the console's second-best-seller to date, despite only launching earlier this year on March 20. In total, the latest Animal Crossing has sold a staggering 22.4 million copies, over 10 million of which were in the first quarter alone, eclipsing the lifetime sales of Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still sits at the top of the best-seller list with 26.7 million units sold, but New Horizons is quickly gaining ground.

Meanwhile, the Switch itself has sold 61.44 million units worldwide as of June 30. 5.67 million Switch units were sold during the financial year's first quarter between April and June, with a fairly even split between the standard and Lite models of the console.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is now fifth on the best-seller list having sold 18.6 million units. This makes it the series' biggest release in 20 years and the third-most successful Pokemon release ever. Newer titles like Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition have sold one million each, and in total, more than 50 million Switch games were sold over the first quarter, up 123% on last year.

Nintendo recently announced that Pikmin 3 Deluxe is coming to Switch on October 30, but the rest of 2020 is looking murky. Bravely Default II and No More Heroes III both have vague 2020 release windows, while Mario's 35th anniversary will reportedly set the stage for a number of remasters to hit the Switch. Beyond this, however, things are looking light unless Nintendo has some surprises up its sleeve for the next Direct.
