Amid Marvel's Kang Recasting Rumors, Colman Domingo Responds

After Jonathan Majors was fired, rumors immediately circulated the recent Oscar-nominated actor would be next in line.

Colman Domingo has had his star on the rise for the past few years and recently was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal as civil rights architect Bayard Rustin. Domingo came to worldwide fame playing Victor Strand in the AMC series Fear the Walking Dead, but has yet to make the jump to comic book movies. And despite the rumors, he doesn't know how his name got involved with the potential recasting of Marvel's next big villain

With Jonathan Majors being fired from the role as Kang, Domingo's name was mentioned as a replacement--though it's still unclear if Kang will be downplayed or completely removed going forward.

"It's funny how people are online talking about this. And the moment it started happening, literally, I think I was on my couch," the actor told Vanity Fair. "And I was like, 'What rumor? Who? Where's this coming from?' I just didn't think about it. The next day I woke up, it's everywhere."

Domingo is the first Black and Afro-Latino actor to be nominated for Best Actor and only the second out gay actor nominated for a gay role--the first being Ian McKellan for James Whale in Gods and Monsters. He also confirmed that he and his team have had conversations with Marvel Studios "for years" now, but nothing has worked out. He's still optimistic about joining the MCU, it just has to be for the right role and reason.

"You know, listen. My team has had conversations with Marvel about some aspect of the MCU for years. Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don’t know," he said about taking on the role of Kang. "I feel like my team doesn't bring me something unless it's real. So I don't know. I could be in conversation, but I'm not sure. I would welcome a conversation around it. Whatever they're working out with Jonathan [Majors] and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane, whatever that is. There's hearsay, there's conversations, but I'm not even sure because I feel like nothing comes to me until something's real. But I'd be down with it."
