October is a big month for releases, packed with sequels to gaming's most popular franchises as well as launch games for Sony's PlayStation VR. With so much to keep track of, we've compiled every major game release date for your convenience. Below you can find some of the month's biggest releases, as well as a comprehensive table covering every single game launching in October.

After nearly six years, the third entry of the Mafia series is finally out. Mafia III puts you in control of Lincoln Clay, a returning Vietnam war veteran who sets out on a bloody quest for vengeance against the Italian mob.

Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3; you play as JD, the son of protagonist Marcus Fenix, as he fights against a mysterious threat that has risen outside the watch of the Coalition of Ordered Governments.

Battlefield 1 takes the series's signature multiplayer and puts it in the historical battles of World War I. The game also sports a multi-perspective single-player campaign, which will tell the stories of five different soldiers fighting across various locations during the Great War.

Titanfall 2 is looking to overcome the shortcomings of the first, providing a more robust multiplayer mode as well as the addition of a single-player campaign. Unlike its predecessor, it's set to release across all major platforms, which includes Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

thumper, rez, dragon quest builders, world of final fantasy and tomb raider all look promising. impossible to play them all. i have a strong feeling mafia III will bomb hard. it looked terrible from the first reveal... not sure why some people were getting excited about it.

Some amazing stuff out this month, really looking forward to Dragon quest builders, World of final fantasy and Shadow warrior 2 might even pick up gears of war 4 on PC.

Yawn....month of the shooter?...and Mafia turned out to be a bad joke. Bring on Watch Dogs....until then I'll keep bombing around Australia in Forza Horizon.....dune buggies rule!!!

@tehmoonstar: Thumper is listed as PS4/PSVR only, it's also on PC (on Steam right now). I'm starting to think this list isn't much use.

Lots of good stuff this month. I'll be picking up Paper Mario, Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest Builders, World of Final Fantasy and Exist Archive. There are a few others I'll check out once the holiday sales start to hit.

@Gravity_Slave: Well yeah, its the current state of the gaming industry. Bad games and ideas run rampant and games are less polished than ever. Very few things are actually worth your money/time lately. It's honestly sad. Hopefully it can recover soon!

@Gravity_Slave: Both of those games are not even remotely good. I played the beta for both and neither was even an ounce of fun. They're not something that I like so I have nothing to look forward to this month. Just because "lots of people" are looking forward to them doesn't mean theyre good games.

For example, Call of Duty has lots of people looking forward to each installment but those have been declining in both sales and ratings compared to the pre-Black Ops II days. No Man's Sky had lots of people looking forward to playing it but then it released and got tons of hate as well as mediocre ratings. Same with Watch Dogs. People looking forward to games means absolutely nothing. In fact, its a good reason to stay away from many games lol.

@7tizz: My taste isn't all over ten years old, I have enjoyed many modern games. Dark Souls III, DOOM, Unravel, Forza Horizon 3, and Uncharted 4 have all been games I've enjoyed from this year alone. I just prefer games from previous generations as they are objectively better and more enjoyable such as BioShock and Fallout 3. I game lately because it's a hobby of mine and I hold out hope that there will be more worthwhile games in this degenerating industry.

@darksouls: Blimey. You're a bit gloomy! I get your point re Watch Dogs and No Man's Sky obviuusly but there are still some good things coming out. XCOM2? FIFA / PES 17? Worms WMD? Rive? also, I don't know what systems you have (all of them by the look of it) but I'm looking forward to getting the Escapists with Games With Gold. It's a hobby of mine too - has been for decades - just wish I had more time to complete great games I picked up in the past few years like AC Syndicate, Wasteland2, The Long Dark, Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, DIRT rally.

I mean, look around - there's a lot of great stuff out there on all systems;

@mpl911: Xcom 2 is objectively pretty good but I have no interest in that series. Rive and Worms WMD have mediocre reviews and dont seem enjoyable imo. PES/FIFA have high reviews as well but I have no interest in sports games.

I do have pretty much every gaming device and I am looking forward to The Escapists and I Am Alive despite each having mediocre reviews as well.

Im at work atm but when I get off I will take a look at those links you posted. I just havent enjoyed as many games this generation as I have in the previous ones (last gen was my favorite generation). I do appreciate and respect your comment/views so I will keep an open mind but as of now there just isnt much out there that looks worthy of playing.

@darksouls: I certainly agree that there's definitely something missing this gen. I don't mind seeing things like Fallout4 or Just Cause 3...re-imagining a particular IP can definitely work, but there does sometimes appear there's a lack of thought going into some of the things. The problem is that everyone complains when the latest AC, CoD or Far Cry game comes out, but then moans when weird and wonderful new IP's like Ori or The Journey or The Escapists turn up.

The most fun I've had this year on my One is with The Long Dark. It was £18 on the Game Preview thing on xbox LIVE! and, after you get into it (took me about 15-retries before I figured it out!) it's an amazing game imo. I was never really into the sandbox (with a Story mode yet to be released) Survival thing (not a lot of it on consoles) but I've put dozens and dozens of hours into that game...and I still keep going back for more. Take a look at it. Steam Early Access - 94% positive reviews. Also Dying Light - that's a bloody good game too.

Anyway - enjoy whatever you play.

Still have to finish Rise of the Tomb Raider, just bought Mafia III, and thinking seriously about canceling my preorder of CoD Infinite Warfare. I play Destiny on a weekly basis and there just isn't time for all of it. Already scratched BF1 and TF2 off my list. I also have a backlog of games like Shadow of Mordor and Witcher III that I'll probably never get around to playing. Wish I could invest time in all of them but it's just not possible.
