Alien: Romulus Trailer Teases The Terror To Come

Space colonizers are exploring an abandoned space station--what could go wrong?

The first trailer for Alien: Romulus, the latest entry in the storied sci-fi series, has arrived--and it's pretty scary. The latest installment in the series aims to take the series "back to its roots," and this means moviegoers are getting treated to (and horrified by) a story about a group of space colonizers scavenging through a derelict space station. Of course things go sideways when they encounter the "most terrifying life form in the universe."

Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), and Spike Fearn (Aftersun) star in the movie.

Fede Alvarez, known for the horror movie Don't Breathe, is directing Alien: Romulus from a screenplay he wrote with longtime collaborator Rodo Sayagues. Original Alien director Ridley Scott returns to produce Alien: Romulus.

The Alien franchise debuted in 1979 and has spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs. Alien: Romulus is the first new entry in the series since 2017's Alien: Covenant. The new film takes place between the events of 1979's Alien and 1986's Aliens

Alien: Romulus releases in theaters on August 16 through 20th Century Studios, which is now owned by Disney. This is the first new Alien movie release since Disney bought Fox.

An Alien TV series from Noah Hawley is also in the works for FX and is not connected to Alien: Romulus.
