A Wonderful Solitaire Horse-Racing Game (Just Go With Us On This) Is Coming To Switch

Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On, a remastered version of the 3DS cult classic, is finally back on a Nintendo platform.

Pocket Card Jockey has come home to a Nintendo platform. The remastered game Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On debuted on Apple Arcade in 2023 and was one of our favorite mobile games last year. That exclusivity period appears to have ended now, as Nintendo announced during its Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase that the game is out on Switch today.

Pocket Card Jockey has you play simple rounds of solitaire on a timer to spur on your horse and gather energy, then spend it racing toward the finish line. You can also plan your route around the other horses, care for them in the stable and upgrade their stats, get special modifiers that influence your strategy, and even put them out to stud so that you can race their offspring.

The original game appeared on 3DS in 2016 and was an unusual release from Pokemon studio Game Freak. It was praised at the time for its funny dialogue and compelling gameplay loop, but flew under the radar until it was brought back last year.

The remastered version gives the visuals an overhaul with 3D modeled horses instead of the sprite-based graphics, and new rules to add more strategic layers. It's available on the Nintendo eShop for $15.
