A Scrubs Revival? "We're Gonna Do It," Series Creator Says

Scrubs can now be put on the list of classic TV shows that are set for a revival, or at least it's beginning to sound like it. Series creator Bill Lawrence and the cast appeared an an ATX TV Festival event this weekend, during which Lawrence said he believes a revival will happen in some capacity, though it remains to be seen how it'll all work out. In any event, don't get too excited just yet.

"We're gonna do it because people still care about it and we enjoy spending time with each other," Lawrence said, as reported by Deadline.

Series stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, and Neil Flynn appeared on the panel and spoke about the series making a comeback.

Faison said it's unlike that Scrubs comes back for a full season, so he thinks a movie is more likely.

"I think we all want a reboot and want to work together again but it couldn't be a full season. Maybe like a movie or something we could shoot in a few months," Faison said.

The actor pointed out that Lawrence is very busy these days, and scheduling will be an issue. "With everything Bill is doing now, he's never going to be free again. If he finds the time, we'll do it," Faison said.

Lawrence is also the co-creator of Apple's popular show Ted Lasso, and he has multiple other projects in development right now, including Head of the Class, Bad Monkey, and Shrinking.

Also during the panel, the topic of a Scrubs musical came up, but Lawrence said this is unlikely to happen. "I don't know if there will be a Scrubs musical unless this cast all say they want to do that. Do you really want to hear Sarah sing? No, you don't," he said.

Scrubs aired a musical episode during Season 6, and Chalke has been open about her singing. She told IGN in 2012 that she aspired to be a singer when she was a kid and even took singing lessons. For the holidays, Chalke sang carols at a mall, and her teacher told her to instead mouth the words. "It was so sad," Chalke said.

Scrubs debuted in 2001 and ran for 9 seasons and 182 episodes. The ninth and final season was a big departure from the rest of the series, focusing on a new group of med school students, with only a few of the cast from the original show appearing.
