During the '80s and '90s, it was a golden era for weird children's game shows. From Legends of the Hidden Temple's Shrine of the Silver Monkey to Nick Arcade's weird blue screen final round, game shows during this era combined trivia, physical challenges, and at least one overly-frustrating moment in the final round. Why are we talking about game shows from 30 years ago? Because it seems like Disney+ may be taking a few notes from that era for its new show Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge.

The 2020 Disney+ game was revealed on the official Star Wars website recently, and it sounds a lot like a game show from the past. According to the synopsis, Jedi Temple Challenge will "test young contestants' abilities in the core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge, and bravery as they face thrilling and fun obstacles in an attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight."

The contestants will be utilizing lightsabers, the Force, traveling through hyperspace, and there's even a bit of the dark side sprinkled in. While it's too early to tell, this does sound a bit like the Nickelodeon series Legends of the Hidden Temple, but with Jedi. That sounds like a winning combination. The host will be none other than Ahmed Best, who will be a mentor and Jedi Master on the show. Many of you may already know Best as Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars prequels. He'll be joined by a droid companion played by Marry Holland.

"This is definitely a kids game show like no other," explained Mickey Capoferri, Lucasfilm’s senior director of online content & programming. "The various challenges will test a Padawan's connection to the Force in three locations--a forest planet, on board a Jedi star cruiser, and inside a Jedi temple--immersing them and the audience in a fun, humorous, and exciting competition."

At this time, Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge will launch on Disney+ sometime in 2020. For now, check out the Easter eggs from The Mandalorian for Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, and Episode 4. You can also read our Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker review.
