The wireless controller offers hair trigger locks, swappable components, button remapping, and more.

[UPDATE] The "Elite" Xbox One controller will cost $150. You can read a lot more about it at Microsoft's website.

The original story is below.

As part of Microsoft's E3 2015 briefing today, the company officially announced a new Xbox One controller.

It's called an "Elite" controller, and it aims to offer "pro level precision." The wireless pad has hair trigger locks, swappable components, and button and paddle remapping.

No Caption Provided

The new controller has been designed for Xbox One and Windows 10, and is different than the slightly tweaked Xbox One controller that comes with the new 1TB Xbox One console.

Microsoft did not announce a release date or price for the new Elite Xbox One controller.

Microsoft's E3 2015 briefing is ongoing; follow along with our liveblog here.

I think Microsoft is getting a little too bold for my taste, $150 is some straight bullshit...I'm irritated enough that I have to pay $60 (brand new game) for a regular controller, but now this! just fucking ridiculous. bad enough the Damn console is $500 itself no let's throw in an over priced controller aswell. **** you Microsoft keep this up and you won't have anyone buying your shit anymore!

This is ridiculous, but I can't say I'm surprised. MS has a habit of charging exorbitant prices for extra hardware. I'm amazed at how many people are justifying the price though. $150 is outrageous for a controller. I don't care how "elite" it is supposed to be. It's half the price of the blasted console itself. But hey, if they can't sell the console, might as well milk the existing customer base for all they're worth.

@AceRoccola: "It's half the price of the blasted console itself."

Glad I'm not the only one who caught that little gem. Ridiculous price. This generation is looking to be full of overpriced gimmicks. (Kinect, VR, Hololens...) When will the madness stop.

a little intimidating even for a guy like me who's been playing videogames for 25 years. add in that price tag and i'm happy with the standard controller. it looks neat though. but at 150 dollars it's way too expensive to try out.

I like this controller, the shape is nice, buttons are nice especially the four added, but the whole idea of a $150 controller is just plain stupid and I am 100% sure it will be ~$70 half a year later because Microsoft don't know how to set a price for their stuff.

Elite is a good name for it. You'd certainly have to be 'special' to pay $150 for one.

To be fair it does look pretty badass, and Microsoft seemed to have covered a lot with it. I'd never get one, though. I'd no longer have an excuse for poor gaming performance.

I don't think the cost of this is that bad. This is Xbox trying to compete with Scuf Pads and how much are they? The same if not more.....

Just like Valve, putting those extra fingers to work is cool, but for Xbox One it's certainly a different scenario since devs must design their games primarily for the standard controller.

@hystavito: An interesting point. Maybe that's where the remapping will come in handy. Some games might play better using buttons and triggers, others the flappy-paddles.

I love how the PC crowd is making fun of and complaining about the $150 price tag but you fools drop $650+ just on graphics cards. Idlots.

Not interested. I've got the Razer Sabertooth and it basically does ALL of these things for half the frickin price. It has quad paddles on the back, multiple configuration profiles, hair trigger face buttons for quick actuation, a GREAT D-pad that's actually good enough it DOESN'T need to be switched out (I STILL don't understand why Microsoft cannot get a D-Pad right) detachable braided cable, full carrying case AND an extra set of programmable buttons on top to make playing easier and faster.

I got mine for 60 bucks. LESS THAN HALF this $150 asking price. I know they're aiming for a very select and very high end gamer's market, but that price is ridiculous considering the Razer Sabertooth does those things for FAR FAR less.

Oh, and the Hori FPS Assault Pad for 360 and PC does all of those same things for 40 bucks (through the Microsoft website). I have that controller too. It's not as nice as the Sabertooth and doesn't have a detachable braided cable or a carrying case, but it has programmable buttons, sensitivity settings, and an extra set of programmable buttons on top of the controller. Obviously not as nice as the Sabertooth, but it still has similar premium features for a hundred bucks less.

Makes me laugh seeing people complain about the price. For everything you can do with it, did you expect anything different? Go search for custom modded controllers and you'll be lucky to find one under $120. Yet, you peasants expect it to be the same price. You make me laugh. Just wait for it to drop in price.

$150.00 is way too much for this bla bla bla....I was willing to pay $200.00 for this awesome precision controller. Most ppl don't think twice about paying $150.00 for a crappy "special/collectors" edition of COD or some other lame ass game. Unlike those over priced games this controller will last you the life time of the XB1.

@hextabomb: I haven't looked too heavily into it, but I think Evil controllers my offer mod options that can rival this for XBO and be more cost effective. Of course, as a PC gamer, I have a different controller I'd like to get my hands on. I've already mentioned it.

I am definitely 100% getting this controler. It looks sick, can change according to the game you're playing, and comes with a nice little carry case to store everything in. Nicely done Microsoft.

$150 is too much. What the hell were they thinking. I thought it was going to be $80-$85. Not preordering that. They need to drop the price. It's more then 2X's the amount of the regular wireless controller.

With the same amount of money you could buy 2 X1 controllers and the wireless adapter for the PC. I only hope that they have finally fixed the D-pad (I'd hope so with those swappable components, but you never know), because the D-pad of the original X1 controllers are still not good enough.

Interestingly, this is actually a cheaper alternative to the SCUF controllers that have been dominating the competitive multiplayer scene for some time now and the buttons on the back look to be of a much higher quality than the snap-on paddles that SCUF utilizes.

Naturally, I absolutely love the color scheme moving away from the colorful buttons just like I did when the Chrome 360 controller introduced it and that D-Pad looks absolutely fantastic. The Plus-Sign D-Pad is the weakest aspect of the XB1 controller and it's nice to see they're going back in the disc direction. It will make playing Dead or Alive, Tekken, and Soul Calibur much more bearable than trying to use an analog stick for precision combos,

Obviously this controller won't come with the same level of customization options as the SCUF, but it will be advantageous being able to swap and modify your controller on the go depending on what genre you're playing versus the SCUF that is pre-built on their website and locked into it's one state unless you purchase additional pieces separately.

$150 is definitely a steep asking price for any controller, but knowing first-hand what hair-trigger locks and mappable paddles can do for a gamer's performance, I will definitely be investing in one when these babies launch. I can only hope one is included with the Halo 5 Xbox One consoles this October.
