Change sometimes means Different.
The old School Gothics were such great games with great Dialogue and Graphics. I liked everything about them. Especially the fact that you played the 'nameless' hero for all three of the Gothics. The formula didn't change, and just got better and better with every Gothic being released. Gothic 3 was probably the pinnacle of the Gothic Series with it's advanced Level up system and so many combat abilities.
Yet somehow, Piranha Bytes managed to step out of this one and let Spellbound create the Gothic 4. This was a bad call. What Piranha Bytes should have done was to let us play as King Rhobar the 3rd in this installment, instead we get to play as a 'nameless' Shepherd who has not got any depth of Character in him.
The story starts off with him trying to marry his girlfriend. OK not a bad start BUT the quests are just stupid delivery missions for the whole tutorial. Then everyone gets slaughtered by Rhobar the 3rd, you survive and eventually become so powerful you can literally do almost about anything. Level ups get so boring as you just don't have that many skills to upgrade and The game is very easy.
If you are new to RPG's check this title out, its an easy start.
If you are a Gothic fan, Don't buy this game.
This game has every right to be called ArcaniA, but never Gothic.
