Square Enix remakes a classic. Again.

User Rating: 8.4 | Final Fantasy IV Advance GBA
Well, if you call yourself a gamer, you know that Square Enix is the RPG king. Period. Other companies have come close (Blizzard, I give you a nod). For those who remember Final Fantasy II (I don't), I have the feeling it was a very good game. Now, as the redo of Final Fantasy II comes out, it really shows Square Enix's skills at making RPGs. RPGs are games that take time, and patients. Same is with other epics, like the LOTR trilogy, and Starwars. In the spirit of both those titles, Final Fantasy IV Advance brings all the defaults of most epics. Romance, betrayal, sacrifice, battles, the list sretches far. While I'm fairly new to the Active Battle system, the fights are well staged. The backgrounds aren't to bad, and are a nice thing to look at when defeating all of those mythical creatures. The Overworld is in pretty good shape, and doesn't have any defects for the most part. Plenty of weapons and other misc. items are stuffed in crates of loot, so you'll actually be selling things to make room for more vital objects. The gameplay is terrific, and couldn't be any better. GBA graphics aren't top notch, but if you're willing, they are enjoyable. Of course there are games with bad graphics, but you just have to let it slide. FF IV Adv. has very well put together graphics, and the potential meter is almost empty in terms of how good they are. The graphics are obviously better than the original, but RPGs don't need terrific graphics. Obviously. Background music. Battle sounds. The 'ding!' of turning on a GBA. That's sound. Some people don't get how important the sound is, because it sets the atmoshpere of the entire game. Imagine playing Doom 3 with no sound. That would suck. Big time. The music doesn't get to me at least, nd fits nicely in it's big notch in the game. It's important. FF IV Adv. is a long game, but you can't play it more than two times. It just gets bland. The campaign takes an estimated 40 hrs., but replay is not very fun. Another RPG made by Square Enix. Another classic.
