Harry Potter Actor Says Adult Fans Of The Series Need To "Grow Up"

Miriam Margolyes, who played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, has a message for adult fans of the Harry Potter series--grow up. Speaking to Australia's ABC News, Margolyes doubled down on her previous comments about Harry Potter, saying people should just move on to something else.

"I'm not unhappy about it. I just think it's for children. And if your balls have dropped, then it's time to forget about it," she said. "You know, go on to other things. No. Seriously. It's a great series. It's a wonderful set of films. I'm proud I was in it. But it was 25 years ago! You know, grow up!"

Margolyes was asked about this in response to her previous comments about the series that went viral when she said she worries for adult Harry Potter fans because "they should be over that by now."

In the ABC News interview, Margolyes suggested adult Harry Potter fans should read Charles Dickens instead. Here's the segment from the interview:

The mainline Harry Potter movie series ended in 2011 with The Deathly Hallows Part II. The spin-off series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them premiered in 2016 and spawned two sequels, but the film franchise is now on hold.

In a bid to focus on its biggest franchises, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced plans for a Harry Potter TV series on Max to come in 2026. Author J.K Rowling is involved with the TV series as an executive producer. She continues to face criticism and controversy over comments about transgender issues.

The untitled Harry Potter series is described as a "faithful adaptation" of the books. WBD said it is planning a "decade-long" series featuring "a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom."

"Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world," WBD said. It was previously reported that there would be seven seasons, each adapting one of the books.
