Final Aquaman Trailer Delivers Ocean-Size Spectacle
"I am the protector of the deep."
It's been nearly a year since the last DC movie hit theaters in the shape of Justice League, but next month finally sees the release of Aquaman. Jason Momoa reprises his role as the King of Atlantis, and the final trailer has now been released. [Update: If you're eagerly anticipating the new movie, you can read all about it in our Aquaman review.]
The new trailer splits the difference between plot and action, with lots of footage of young Arthur Curry training with his father Vulko (Willem Dafoe) to become a fearsome ocean warrior. The rest kicks into high gear with tons of wild-looking action, plus another look at Aquaman in his famous golden suit from DC's comic books. Check it out below.
This trailer follows one that was released at New York Comic-Con last month, which focused more on Aquaman's origins and gave us our first look at Black Manta (David Kane). The movie also stars Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, and Patrick Wilson as Aquaman's villainous brother King Orm.
It's directed by James Wan, who previously helmed The Conjuring and Furious 7, and hits theaters on December 21, 2018. For more, check out 26 Things We Learned About Aquaman from James Wan.
Although we've had to wait a while for Aquaman, there's plenty more DC movies on the way over the next couple of years. Shazam arrives in March, while Joker, which will focus on the early life of the Clown Prince of Crime, is released in October. Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters in July 2020, having been pushed back from November next year, while the Harley Quinn spin-off Birds of Prey is currently scheduled for February 2020.
In addition, James Gunn, who was fired by Disney from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 back in July, is now writing a Suicide Squad reboot for DC. We're meant to be getting a Flash movie at some point too, although continued delays mean that is unlikely to appear before 2021.
