Good beginning, but becomes so boring and tedious that it turns into a chore to finish.

User Rating: 4.5 | Aliens: Colonial Marines X360
When I first heard about Aliens: Colonial Marines, I wasn't as excited as many others were. Maybe it's due to the fact that pretty much every Aliens game made since 1999 were terrible. So going into this with the bar set pretty low, it managed it be worse than I ever imagined.

Graphics - The entire game fails to impress in this category. It looks like an early 2008 360 or PS2 game. The set pieces look terrible, the characters have a flat look to them with no emotion or detail, the aliens look bad, screen tearing and pop-ups all over the place, I witnessed more than a few characters (human or Alien) get stuck between debris and doors, and all of the animations look stiff and choppy. Everything in this game looks like it was flat and uninspired.

Sound - The gun sounds are very weak, the characters speak over each other and won't finish their dialogue at times, the Alien screeches are pretty well done, Lance Henriksen and Michael Biehn sound lifeless and bored just like the rest of the cast, and the soundtrack is even rather weak.

Gameplay - Finding the Legendary Weapons (weapons used by the characters in the Aliens film) were pretty cool to find. The guns were rather inaccurate (even after adding scopes) when firing, the shotgun and flamethrower seemed to be the only ones that worked half-way decent, I think the motion tracker should have been added either to the HUD or somewhere on the weapon since switching back and forth was rather annoying, selecting weapons was a confusing mess and could have been done much better, your character can run only for all of 5 seconds before he gets tired, many times your partner stays behind and then randomly shows up like he has his own Portal gun or something.

Story - The story really makes no sense. Seems like a lot was tacked on just to attempt to explain the events early in Alien 3. In either case, there wasn't enough of a plot or character development to really make the players care about what's going on. It's pretty much the Marines vs. the Xenomorphs and Weiland-Yutani troops. Not to mention that this might have had the single worst ending I've seen in a game in a very long time. It's abrupt, confusing, and frustrating. Even if I thought the game was merely mediocre leading up to this point, the ending was enough to make me truly hate it.

The shame is that the game started out with some promise. However, it never evolves past the first level and becomes the same brainless shooter throughout. While it's functional, it's one of the most boring, bland shooters I've ever played.
