Genuine Alien Experience

User Rating: 8 | Alien: Isolation (Nostromo Edition) PS4

Just finished this game today, and I have to say it is a pretty solid game. Strongly disagree with the Gamespot review. There are lots of terrifying and exhilarating moments, as well as some excellent nods to the original movie.

I got this game on release day as a gift, but I'll freely admit I was reluctant to play it. Mainly because I am not the hugest survival horror fan and because I knew the game was very long. After finally finishing it today, I have to say I still think it is a little on the long side, but the game is rather captivating. I'll freely admit that I am a huge Alien franchise fan, have been since I was a kid. This game does a great job of bringing the original movie to life as a video game. The motion tracker is essential, but not perfect because you have no idea if a target is above you or beneath you, leading to a certain risk/reward decision when you decide to leave a safe spot.

Later in the game when you deal with the Alien more and more, survival becomes more tense, and more exhilarating. I didn't like the androids, but that is just because I always tried to kill them. I'm sure if I played the game the right way, I'd have been more okay with them. I'll also admit that there where times when I wondered why other humans would be trying to kill Amanda Ripley when there was a Xenomorph chasing everything that walks, but it does in fact add to the survival of the fittest atmosphere the game attempts to project.

There are flaws in the game, there is no doubt. I don't however feel they detract from the game enough to knock the game back too much, though. I had to reload my save a couple times due to the fact that I wasn't sure if a human was an enemy or not, as when you kill an innocent human you have to restart from your last save point. The voice acting at times feel flat, but is mostly believable and it is not a deterrent of the game overall.

All in all, if you liked the Alien franchise, this game will keep you sucked in. It's a great game and should not be missed.
