Fun but leaves u wanting more and sometimes frustrated.

This is one game that grew on me but still left something wanting. I really like Air Sims and since Ace Combat X on the PSP blew my mind I think I was expecting a lot more from this game.
To start with the good points, the gameplay is fun and the campaign pretty long.(considering that one plays all 4 sides) The gameplay difficulty is also decent ranging from novice where the AI is easy to shoot down to Ace, where one does have good dogfights. The part i liked was the aiming in front of the enemy plane in order to hit it, which sorta made it realistic. The planes respond well to flight controls and at higher difficulties I quite enjoyed the dog fights. One thing that i noticed(or maybe cuz i'm a WWII buff) is that they have incorporated the drawbacks and advantages of the fighters of different sides really well. e.g. the supermarine spitfire wasn't as fast as the messerschmidt but it had a better turning radius and I found this in d Battle of Britain campaign(ace difficulty), which was pretty awesome(unless i imagined it and it was bad AI). You do like flying around in WWII planes and shooting down d enemy(especially when they go down in flames) and killing ground targets(sitting ducks)the only problem being u really cant see ground targets getting blown up by your bombs. The world details are really nice and well detailed(considering the PSP's inherent lack and some of the details i've seen in some games e.g ironman).
The major drawbacks that I thought this game had are as follows. The aiming reticule is fine for MG fire and blowing enemy planes outta the sky, but it gets really frustrating when one is trying to fire rockets at the ground targets. The bombing reticule is easy enough to use as the ground targets are just sitting there.
The mission types lack depth and are really short consisting of 3-4 waves of enemies that one has to defeat. Bombers are pretty useless in this game cuz the fighter bombers can do the same thing due to the extremely small number of ground targets. In fact, I preferred to use the fighter bombers in almost all missions in order to hit the ground targets and the d planes.
One of the most frustrating thing is the lack of replaying the mission when one dies. Its mission over and next please. In order to finish the mission You have to reset the game and replay it. Most frustrating especially when u r trying to blow the waves of enemy bombers. And u cant really go back to missions even after one has completed the campaign (retarded? maybe).

There is no online play(which wud've really been awesome) but ad-hoc mode can support upto 8 players. Me and my friends had amazing fun playing this game while on a weekend trip travelling. But the problem being there are no host rules so the rules have to b decided before hand inbetween otherwise the person taking the fighter bomber with the rear gunner has an added advantage.

All in all this is a fun game to play in short bursts and especially fun with friends. But it does have issues which make one reach for tissues. Try renting it first and let it grow on you.
