I had waited quite a long time for this game (and no, I'm not biast towards it because it was delayed, maybe one more delay would have made it slightly better, but oh well) and was disappointed to see it got low reviews. However, I decided to pick it up anyway, and am glad I did. This game is an all out sci-fi alien blaster, that takes place amidst a galactic war. With some story and dialogue written by famed author Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game series, Robota, Treason-- to name a few) the story was very interesting, especially towards the end of the game, but I won't ruin it for any of you. Now, onto the gameplay. The game is a 3rd person action/adventure game that has you shooting bad guys with weapons, superpowers, and even vehicles/turrets. The game uses a "Flick-Targeting" system that has you switch enemies that you are locked onto by flicking the right analogue stick towards them. It doesn't always work, and you can't lock onto enemies when they are a fair distance away from you, which hardly seems fair if they can shoot you from the same distance. However, there is a first person mode, that plays without the flick targeting, but is very ugly, and is not how the game was meant to be played. All in all, a very fun gaming experience, if only a bit short, the game will only run you around 10 hours. The Graphics in Advent Rising were very impressive. From the reaches of Space, to exploding cities, to lush forests-- this game looks fantastic. The aliens especially look nice, although Gideon and the rest of the humans are shaped kind of funny, but it's a unique style and I think it looks cool. The sound in Advent Rising is another magnificent part of this game. Tallarico studios worked on it and did a great job! It sounds great and really helps bring you into the game. On very few occasions did I feel the music didn't represent the situation on-screen. Overall, great job! Advent Rising is a great action/adventure game with a story bigger than most other games out there. This is planned to be a trilogy (and a side-story for the PSP, staring Marine, a character from this game), which is ambitious, but if the other games are like Advent Rising, I won't be disappointed, and neither should you be! NOTE: I played this game on a relatively newer X-Box and had few, subtle framerate issues and very few bugs in gameplay. I don't think the tiny, unnoticable bugs will hurt the experience for anyone, at least not with a newer X-Box, but at the very least rent this game, as it isn't all that long.
