Ace Combat 6 struck me as as just another arcade flight game. But I rented it anyway, which turned out to be a very good decision. Ace Combat has its ups and downs, but is an overall fun game to play. First off, the graphics are extremely photo-realistic and still have to date some of the best visuals the xbox 360 has to offer. The planes are very detailed and really draw the eye. When you engage throttle, you'll see your engine glow oranges, reds, and purples as the afterburner shoots you away into sky blue oblivion. While not entirely realistic that you can hold down your afterburner without worrying about fuel or overheats, it looks great. The buildings look alright and the terrain models are standard for having to cover such a large area, and the ground vehicles are at least recognizable. The story could use work with what I thought were some cheesy lines and fruity cutscenes, but once you get into it it can be quite good. The dialogue can get annoying and/or cheesy at times, but this really isn't a major issue, and thankfully doesn't drag down the game to a fiery demise. In the actual gameplay, the game can provide countless hours of running, gunning, bombing, and firing your unrealistic-yet -balanced massive stockpile of missiles at the enemy. While the constant MISSILE ALERT beeps can be a bit much, when you start blowing your way through the 15 campaign missions and all the difficulty modes, it can be many hours of fun. You can also unlock about infinite medals and ribbons, so don't worry about the game being too short. In multiplayer, there might not be a whole lot more satisfying things you can do when you watch your friend's expensive high-tech military aircraft explode in a ball of fire. Do a victory loop! However, connection problems have always weighed down the experience, having to rely on a host to support 10+ modern jets whipping around the map. A few final words: The game has its faults, and I am usually not a fan of air combat in this era, but turns out to be a solid game. For more, rent it or buy it cheap on Ebay. Cheers, all. -Comrade Giraffe :)
