It's the Ghosts of Ragriz!

User Rating: 9 | Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War PS2
The first Ace Combat game I really got into and actually finished was Unsung War. The cutscenes to this day are top notch at least to me though I was just as impressed with the cutscenes in Belkan War as it appears as if they are real people. Its likely they were anyway Unsung War pulls you right in off the bad as you start off a rookie pilot, a nugget in Wardog Squadron, Wardog 4 aka Blaze. You basically fly CAP until war comes straight for Sand Island, your home airbase. The original lead, Heartbreak One, Jack Bartlett is shot down leaving tension as to who will lead in his stead, turns out it'll be you naturally even though Edge outranks you technically. She'll be your six along with the comical yet capable Chopper.

Archer will the fourth spot later and you'll become legendary thanks Genette's article as well as multiple victories plus sinking two submersible carriers stirs something. Both sides have elements questioning what is going with this conflict. Harling tries to press for an end to it, but as you turn over the protection of his secret plane to the 8492nd, the hole gets deeper.

The flight gets hell over the bombing of a civilian facility, 8492nd at work again. You'll be on parole of a sort because they need you on the defense once more. Eventually you'll help liberate a POW camp, Bartlett's not there, and Edge gets shot down so you and the others will mount a rescue. Not an easy go there and once back in the capital you'll being in an air show for a patriotic thing, but there's a growing anti-war movement there too.

An aerial battle leads to Chopper's death then events accelerate as the entire team's death is staged to save you and them. Bartlett is still alive in Yukotabania tracking down Nikanor who's been MIA since the start. Harling is also found by the flight too. Everyone meets up again on the Kestrel as a ship to ship battle follows before the massive take down of the doomsday SOLG.
