Utterly ridiculous.

As far as hack and slash games go, this is not one you want to buy. It does have its very few merits, such as respectable background art, but other than those few things, it is not worth buying. Lets start off with the graphics. 300 might have respectable backgrounds, and decent artwork occasionally, but the overall graphics will make you wish that the designers had spent at least around 6 more months on development. This would be because the graphics are boring and not very well done. The characters look like they are literally made up of blocks of different shapes, and the only reason you can distinguish yourself from the other Spartan soldiers other than the fact that you can control yourself is a small plume on your helmet. Otherwise, you would probably get confused by all the other Spartans in the game.

Moving on to gameplay. I admit, when you read the back of the cover, it does sound intriguing to be able to control a phalanx and gut enemies. However, you will soon find out that you are completely wrong. This might be a glitch in my version, but for some reason, every time i attack an enemy, the attacks move in slow motion, giving the enemies(who are not moving in slow-mo) more time to attack me. Also, the attack combos are painfully limited, and in case you press a wrong button in the middle of a combo, the attack abruptly stops. Also, though the weaponry can be upgraded, i don't think it makes much of a difference. This applies to abilities too. While what you can do may sound nice, in reality its not that great. Plus, the only way you can do multiple attacks is through specific combos only, making it extremely dull.

All in all, I'd say that if you want to buy a hack and slash game, don't consider this one.
