I had never played an online RPG before, so I had no idea what to expect from the .hack series. I actually had no intention of playing this series, but I acquired the strategy guides for the first three games for free. I perused those for a while and decided I'd give it a shot. I have to say, although the game is a bit on the repetitive side, I still enjoyed the story. The camera wasn't as bad as most action RPGs. I also really liked discovering new areas and using the bonus DVD as an aid for finding special levels. Overall, I thought that this was a very original title. One thing I would not recommend doing is playing all four games consecutively. The story is quite good, but the repetition will kill you. The most challenging aspect of this game for me was the Grunty races. They were a little frustrating at times, but very you'll definitely feel a sense of accomplishment when you complete them. All in all, I would definitely recommend this game to anyone that is a fan of anime, the .hack/Sign series, or anyone into single player RPGs who are curious about the structure of an online RPG. It's not exactly the same, but WoW players may have a laugh or two.
