Xyanide...a good shooter with somewhtat lackluster graphics.

Let's talk space shooter. Gradius, a great old school shooter. Thunder Force, and amazing shooter. R-Type, a fun shooter. Now, let me start by saying, I couldn't put this darn game down. Every time I played (after losing all of my continues) I got farther and farther. Every million points you score, you get another continue. The game is fun (as fun as a shooter can be) and should be played by all shooter fans. Xyanide also has a story that invloves a teenage topless girl with a mean streak. How that got by the ratings board is beyond me but anyway. I have to admit, I was dissappointed by the in-game graphics and the redundant level designs. The first (3) levels (with the exception of some truly remarkable boss-fights) are almost identical and gets on your nerves quickly. I also did not enjoy the weapon selection. You have a laser and spread shot....that's it. You do have a homing missle attack which is pretty useless unless you perfect it. You can power up your two weapons to some pretty intense levels (If you survive that long) but it never feels like the games of old. I miss the multiple screen filling weapons from my past. Oh Ikaruga where have you gone.

Ow well lets talk good things: The game is fairly lengthy with branching paths (although these paths are pretty similiar with no consequence to the overall outcome of the game) and insanely long levels. The levels are probably the longest in shooter history. The boss-fights are my favorite part of this game. You will suffer through the levels just to do battle with some awe-inspring screen filling bosses. And this game is $20.00. In closing, did i get my $20.00 worth? Absolutely! Is the game fun? Uh Huh. Is it worth playing? Yup! So, if your a shooter fan and could use your fix of mindless button mashing fun....grab your money and go purchase this little gem (If you can find it). I'm sure you will find it as addictive as I did. Welcome to the world of the $20.00 space shooter..........
