A very fun rental....

User Rating: 8 | X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Uncaged Edition) PS3
There are not many movie to game adaptations that do very well these days. Superman, Spiderman, HULK, and Iron Man for example are cases of bad games that were spawned from a movie. Will X-Men Origins: Wolverine prove that not all games based off a movie are bad? Well lets find out.

Graphics - 9/10

The graphics are simply stunning in this game. The character detail is outstanding. Everything from minor scratches to the stubble on their faces. Ripped clothes and dripping blood. Everything is very well represented in high detail.
The enironments are also beautifully detailed. You start off in the jungle and the surroundings are interactive. Walk through a shrub or a branch and it will move. Walk towards a monkey and it will move away from you. The real-time cutscenes just look amazing as well. You can really tell that Activision really put the Unreal 3 engine to good use.

Sound - 7.5/10

There is not a whole lot to say about the sound. Music kicks in when you are fighting and the sound effects sound great. I have no complaints about the sound but I can not give it a higher score because nothing really jumps out and makes me say, "Wow!, I can not believe how good this game sounds!"

Gameplay - 8/10

The controls are good and precise. Manuevering your character around is smooth and comfortable. Its easy to pull off the various attacks that you unlock while progressing through the game. The camera is controlled by your right analog stick and so far seems to be well implemented.
The environments seem to be fairly straight and there are no multiple routs to advance. There is basically just one direction so getting lost or wondering where to go next is pretty much impossible. The game offers many trophies which adds to the replay of the game. Being only a single player game it is important to include many trophies.

As you play you will be collecting orbs which gives you rage. Rage will lets you go ape$hit on many enemies at once. Comes in handy when you are surround by 15 baddies. You will also earn XP for every kill. This is need to level up and earn new moves and abilities.

Overall - 8.25/10

From the very start the game is action packed as you are thrown right in to a fight. The game teaches you how to play as you continue on. There are collectibles hidden throughout the game such as action figures and dog tags which are a nice addition. However the game feels so straight forward that there really will not be any need to play through more than once, unless you want to get all the trophies of course. Then you will need to play through a few times. Overall this game is fun but could probably be completed in rentals time. Is this game worth the full $60? I really do not think so. This leads me to awarding this game with Lethal's "Blockbuster" stamp of approval.

Pros:
Very good graphics
Action packed and fun to play
Many trophies to obtain

Cons:
No multiplayer
No replay value
Very straight forward
