I can't believe MARVEL allowed this game to happen...

My headline for this review sums this game up quite nicely. It's a shame that the same developer that brought us "X-Men Legends" and its equally awesome sequel had to come back and deliver this P.O.S. game to long-time fans. As a gamer in my early thirties, I find quite annoying that studios are pumping out poorly refined games onto the masses in hopes of turning a profit from such a reputable series name like the X-Men. But enough developer-bashing. Allow me to get down to nitty-gritty for those of you actually considering purchasing this product.

First off, rent it before you buy it. Even for a game geared towards children this game really lets you down in just about every category. The graphics are too cute and cartoon-ish to do the X-Men characters justice. Most of the scenes feel like the "B-Team" of animators were brought in to crank this one out. The controls when fighting are very easy to understand, but the camera angles add a layer of complexity to even the most mind-numbing puzzles. (If you are smart enough to find the "A" button on the Wii-mote, then you will definately be able to shred drones of purifiers!)

The only aspect of this game I found somewhat engaging were the cut-scenes. If I were a newcomer to the X-Men series, then I would absolutely love the "choose-your-own-adventure" style of story telling they took in this game. I found it very refreshing to see the X-Men characters engaging with young mutants who are just discovering their powers for the first time. However, you have to imagine their mouths actually moving during these cut scenes which is a bit odd considering the voice-overs are done so well. Why would they decide to overlook that detail? Who knows...

Overall, please rent this before giving the developer your hard earned money. There are much better games out there that represent MARVEL 100x better than this one. But please feel free to decide for yourself...
