Glitchy controls and less-than-intelligent AI take away from the fun.

Let me say up front that I'm a big tennis fan. Not sure why, given how poorly I play, but I love the one-on-one combat. Kindof like boxing without the violence. That said, I found WTA Tour Tennis to be a disappointing game. My biggest complaint is the glitchy controls. It's got a double-click scheme similar to the old Mario Tennis--click the A button once to set your feet, and then click again to time your shot. But unlike the old Mario Tennis, there was no way to un-set your feet. So if you accidentally click too far away from the ball, you're hosed. Your player may make an attempt for the out-of-reach ball but will almost certainly mis-hit it. Which means you will generally lose the point. I'm also frustrated because some of the best fun in tennis doesn't seem to be possible with WTA Tour Tennis. I'm talking about aces and service return winners. I've never been able to get an ace past an opponent, and when receiving I've only occasionally been able to time a service return winner. It's very frustrating, given that other games like Sega Tennis let you do those with fair regularity. The other downside is the less-than-intelligent AI. When you play against the computer it is too predictable--the players don't return to the center of the court like they should, they're too easily fooled into staying on one side of the court and thus open up the other side for a winner. They also don't pick up on your service tendencies--I tend to like the serve out wide but the computer never inches the returner over wide to take a good whack at my serve. There are some good parts. If you play as Jennifer Capriati for example, you do have a great forehand that can get you out of a lot of tough spots. It's possible to pass almost anybody if they approach the net. But the good isn't enough to outweigh the bad. This is a barely adequate game, if you have some time to kill.
