not an instant classic by any means, but it does offer solid entertainment

User Rating: 7 | Wolfenstein PC
For some reason I like comparing this game to the recent NecroVisioN game -- both start as a classic WW (Necrovision is WW I and Wolfenstein WW II) games but soon after the start they depart into a fantasy land. Of the two, Necrovision is a better PC game, given that it was made exclusively for PC, while Wolfenstein is a port which is easily noticed. Necrovosion is also a much longer game and offers more weapons. However, I experienced Wolfenstein as more interesting of the two.

Negatives:
- console port job (not as bad as some other ported games, but still obvious)
- very limited number of conventional/classic weapons -- if you already have traders in the game, they could have some handguns, shotguns, maybe a few English, American, French or Russian guns in their black market stores
- tho, I haven't had any technical problems, some systems are struggling to run this game without crashing
- cinematic pieces are rather mediocre
- game mechanics lack a dedicated cover system, prone, lean left/right from the cover

Positives:
- game using idTech 4 (a.k.a. Doom 3) engine runs smoothly on highest settings not requiring the latest top of the line equipment
- graphics are above average (tho not the top notch)
- sound is OK tho voice acting could be better
- there is something great about playing again a classic shooter and reminiscing about Wolfenstein-like games from the past
- maps/levels are interesting and well done (except for getting around the town itself which gets old after a few rounds)
- medallion powers are well designed and fun to use
- multiplayer (but no co-op)

Overall, the new Wolfenstein is a fun game to play. It's not an instant classic by any means, but it does offer solid entertainment from the beginning to the end. For hardcore gamers that want a similar experience with insanely challenging and massive boss fights, I'd recommend NecroVisioN. For recreational gamers and people just wanting to have some fun after work/school, Wolfenstein is probably a much better fit. Overall score: 7.1/10.
