Before Burnout, there was Wipeout. This game was the originator of speed. With an awesome soundtrack from the likes of The Prodigy, Orbital, Fluke and many more, screaming in your ears as your tearing up the track with homing missles and mines, this game brought me to my knees in sheer fun.
Also before LAN support in consoles as we know it today, Wipeout was also the originator for Link Cables, which allowed up to 2 players going head long in battle as your dodging mines and missles, all the while trying to make those seemingly impossible hair pin turns.

If you can find this in a bargain bin at some Gamestop or EB games, pick it up and experience what most of us felt was pure fun.
