It might be a disaster in some areas, but a lively soundtrack and entertaining gameplay keeps everything fun.

In WET, players will dive, slide, hack and slash their way through a plethora of henchman as Rubi Malone. A hired gun with a slight fear of flying but will take any job as long as the pay is right. The story here is your typical, "killer betrayed and seeks revenge". After a simple snatch and grab job gets a little bloody, Rubi finds herself on the deaths door. When she finally comes to from a little nap, she's intent on raining bloody hell on those who deceived her. There's not much to say when it comes to the story. It's not the greatest story of betrayal ever told, just your standard criminal underworld blood bath.

What sets the story apart from most are the intermissions. Reminders to get food, or other advertisements. Combined with the grainy film filter(that can be turned off if you so choose) and the entertaining surf rock soundtrack that picks up when the action starts, shows off the games unique grind house feel. The dialogue and graphics are a tad clumsy. You'll occasionally notice some graphical clipping, and some of the animations are rather choppy. Level detail has a nice touch, but that doesn't stop them from being linear. The voice acting, while solid isn't great and there are a few moments where the lip syncing is off. Yet with all the problems, the game will hold your attention long enough just to see how she'll handle the situations.

Wet actually does sport a rather wide variety of acrobatic moves like running up to your enemies, spring boarding off of them, and then cutting them down a notch with your sword or sliding into a group of enemies while you fire a barrage of bullets into their skulls and finishing off your slide with an upward slash of your sword to an enemies gut. It's just too bad you'll spend the entire game relying on the basic movements of jumping, sliding and running along walls to kill your enemies and avoid gunfire. As you progress through the game you'll upgrade Rubi's abilities and guns. Rubi starts off with dual pistols and infinite ammo and eventually she'll unlock dual sub-machine guns, shotguns and crossbows that fire explosive arrows. Unlike her pistols they don't come with infinite ammo but they can all be upgraded to carry more ammo, fire faster and do more damage. Upgrading her abilities will allow you to roll, shoot from ledges, zip lines and other things that will aid you in murdering your enemies. Some of the more movie oriented set pieces take place in the form of quick time events as do boss battles. What really stands out in the game are the rage sequences that start when Rubi gets a face full of blood. Everything becomes cel-shaded red, white and black, Rubi pulls both of her weapons and tears through a horde of foes.

Where this title fails however, is something you're quickly going to learn and that's the fact that it gets old. Even the upgraded abilities can't keep the You can only run, jump, slide and shoot so many people in slow motion before it gets repetitive. Rubi comes equipped with two guns but, she feels the need to only use one. When performing acrobatic tricks she'll use both her guns to make use of the games split-targeting system and shoot multiple foes but, the action moves a little too fast for Rubi to use one gun that shoots rather slow. Rubi will automatically climb onto objects and vault over them when you move into them, which becomes kind of a pain when you press the jump button and cause her to lunge forward often to her death. The environment has it's moments where it likes to get in your way. Rubi might get stuck while she's sliding, or get pushed off walls because something's jutting out of them. Replay value is also lacking outside of shooting scorpions in Rubi's home, collecting toy monkeys, playing through the game on harder difficulties and completing challenges. It's certainly there, but it's not really enough to keep some people coming back.

It's repetitive but the action is fast and the soundtrack is energizing which keeps things entertaining. I often find myself diving into large concentrations of enemies just to see how many I can kill at once. This game has some serious issues but I must admit that I would like to see Rubi return in future titles. With some more acrobatic interaction with the environment, maybe a cover system and some tweaking with the graphics and lip syncing, A2M could have a real winner on their hands. Until then, I can only recommend that people rent this title if they want to pass the time.
