Addictive Turn based RPG - Old School MoM Like

User Rating: 8.5 | Warlock: Master of the Arcane PC
I am so far pleasantly surprised by Warlock. It is much in the vein of MoM (Master of Magic) for those of us old enough to remember. I find game system is highly polished - and have yet to come across a single bug (as opposed to Elemental Magic fiasco that came out a year ago?)

The UI is intuitive and quick to pick-up, and game-mechanics are straightforward. Build cities as resource centers, have areas of control - and hex resources - similar to the Civ series - and build units from cities based on building heirarchy.

The game system in fact, doesn't hold any big surprises - but the mechanics blend together very well - and you don't get bogged down in micro-management or some esoteric combat rules. However, the combat I still found enjoyable, as a combination of your city mana spell pool - and unit types - makes for some interesting deployment choices and attack choices.

In addition, like Civ series - resources are spread over a map that initially is fogged over so there is discovery and exploitation.

As I said - I'm only a few hours into the game. But at a $20 buy-in (as opposed to putting out $50 or more for many recent PC games that were buggy as hell and lacked polish) - this game so far is well worth the bill.

PS: Also it is next-turn addictive. I think the game will do well.
