All the blood and brutality of the 40K universe in one great game

Being a big warhammer fan I was skeptical when I first heard they were making this game, but after having played I was thoroughly impressed, this game is brutal!!

While the graphics themselves were great and caught the feel of the 40K universe, they capture the look and feel of a war torn universe but overall they were not that amazing. However what really makes this game stick out from the rest is the gameplay, yes the button bashing system can be repetitive and tedious but the sheer brutality of the moves you can do is so much fun that you'll soon forget that you keep pressing the same buttons. There's a decent variety of guns which can be used, some one handed while others two (so nothing new there) but by far the best way to play is with a pistol in one hand and a badass chainsword in the other….yes that's right a chainsword! Or a power hammer or even a power axe, the point is you can blast your way in a horde of orks and then slaughter them with your melee weapon (it's slightly harder to do this when you face the forces of Chaos), its especially satisfying when you do a finishing blow and watch your character saw or cleave an enemy in two. The battles are intense and almost non-stop throughout the game, you even get the occasional jetpack which allows you to fly into the air and dive bomb the orks below.

I really don't like how some people have compared this game to GOW, sure they look alike at first but GOW is based on a cover system which requires you to think at least a little and have a strategy, while this game…….who needs a strategy when you have a plasma pistol in one hand and a huge chainsword in another!! This game is all about running in guns blazing, hacking and slashing your way through hordes of enemies.

Despite all this fun and gore the gameplay could have been made much more enjoyable if they'd thrown in some vehicle action and maybe a wider variety of melee attacks. Also the story of the game is rather weak and the characters don't really grab your attention, mean sure they're all badass Space Marines but that's really where it ends, you can tell that the developers were concentrating far more on the gameplay aspect of the game rather than having a solid story.

Now I'm not a big fan of online gaming so I'll leave a detailed discussion of the multiplayer to those who are, but I just want to say that it actually works really well and was fun to play, but be warned there are certain loadouts which other players will use and annoy the hell out of you with (for example master crafted+favored of the armory).

Overall then, this game is a must for any Warhammer 40K fans and for those who love hack and slash games, but even if you're neither of the above I'd still say that this game is worth a try. I'm hoping that should they make a sequel of this that we'll be able to play as other races (like maybe the Chaos Space Marines, Necrons, Tyranids….hell any of the other 40K universe races would be awesome!), fingers crossed eh!
