One of my favorite games

User Rating: 9 | Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade PC
I am a huge fan of the 40k universe. I play the tabletop game, I own many novels pertaining to it, and I own most of the PC video games involving Warhammer. I truly felt that Warhammer 40k Dark Crusade was the best and most complete 40k video game at its time. The graphics were improved, new units were added to the mix, and instead of a linear campaign the player is allowed to use any race and must take over an entire planet sector by sector.

Each race has its own unique qualities. All of them are different, and no two races play exactly the same. This brings versatility that one can't find in many other strategy franchises. The guard are useful for their cheap and plentiful units, and ability to build some of the most destructive vehicles in the game. The Tau have great shooting capability, with Kruit to assist in hand to hand combat. Necrons are deadly because they are hard to kill, and many of their units come back to life just as they do in the tabletop game. One of their biggest threats is their Necron Lord who never stays dead long. The Eldar have advanced weaponry and can summon an Avatar that kills everything with a massive sword and is hard to kill. The Orcs are great for rushing, can produce massive amounts of units, and can generate very tough units, including the massive Squiggoth that demands respect from the enemy. There are the Chaos Space Marines, who are the epitome of "evil" and have the same qualifications as Space Marines except they also come with dark powers and demons, including Bloodthirsters which are always a huge terror to behold. Last but not least there are the Space Marines, the heroes of the empire of man. Armed with their heavy set of weapons and Carapice armor, they blast into battle with a whole arsenal of xenos killing machines.

Each race is fun to play and not too difficult to figure out, but everyone who plays has their personal favorite. Mine is quite simply the Marines, although I have also been known to use the Orcs and Tau once in a while. Each faction has its own purpose for attacking the planet, Kronos, and each story has a unique ending. On the campaign map there are specific sectors that give the player special abilities. These include; being able to attack any sector on the map at any turn whether they are in contact with one of your provinces or not, gaining extra requisition, and much more. Each faction also has a capital sector that is very well fortified and requires much strategy to conquer, but if accomplished will reap much reward.

All in all, this game is simply fantastic, and I recommend it for everyone.
