Bit of a dissapointment
The game is extremly shallow, and not worthy. it cannot be compared to good sports games, and makes me sad that this is the status of the tennis sport, in the world of video gaming, which treats other sports so wonderfully, with great games like Pro Evolution Soccer(best sports game series ever in my opinion) Fifa, NBA Live, Madden Football, Need For Speed, and more..
it has nice graphics and a simple average-plus gameplay(nothing i haven't seen in very simple small freeware/shareware tennis games) but lacks very severly in every other aspect a video game can have. it's career mode stinks, it has very little players(about 30) shallow attributes of players, no tactical thinking, crappy AI of opponents, predictable, no other aspects that a proffesional athlete encounters in a career.
The good parts:
The games Graphic system is fantastic, the cloths and the players look great, even the way that the move in the wind. the courts look great, and the stadiums too.
The little games that you do in order to practice and improve your player, are creative, enojoyable and fun. there are about 10 of these, with different features, which you do in between tournaments, like bowling-serve practice, and more. and basiclly, isn't complete at all.
I am very disappointed of this game, and can only hope that someday, someone in the world of video games industry, will decide to take tennis seriously.
hopefully, we will see a realese of Pro Evulotion TENNIS someday! untill then, stick to actual playing, because this game stinks.
The bad parts:
Everything that makes the game deeped and more complete, is lacking severly in this game.
first, you have only about 30 men and women major players, and no other players at all, i would expect a game like this to have at least the top 300 rankings for men and women, and of course youth potential, just like any good soccer game, or basket ball game.
second, the world tour option(basicly the most comprehensive career mode of the game) is very very shallow, and extremely dissapointing. it is built with tournaments, that you enter accourding to your ranking, which goes up if you win. the tournaments are so lame. at most, they start at a QF, but usally you don't even play that, you just start at the SF. also, the matches consists, of 2 games, and only 1 set. at later stages ir reaches 4 games and only 1 set at the grand slams. this is nothing like the structure of the world tour and the tournaments, and isn't fun at all. think of FIFA with only 5 teams, who play each other once in the premier league, unacceptable. of course there are no race ranking for the masters series, or davis cup career. nothing about sponsers either.
3rd, the attributes are shallow too, and consists of very few categories which you improve, no depth in it at all, again picture PES or FIFA with only kick, head, pace, and volley, as the attributes of the players, that would awful.
4th, opponents AI lacks very much, you get thier simple pattern constructed gameplay very quickly, and most of the points looks exactly the same. very shallow again, and no place for complicated tactis. at the highest gamplay level, they simply made it that the opponets hit extremly accuratly and strongly, and run fast to every ball, so it becomes hard, but still no tactics. you can foresee the moves hours before they make them.
5th, no financial dimension to game at all, which is another example to the games' shallowness, and narrowness.
