Wolfenstein's Old School Sensibilities Won't Appeal to Everyone
Mark and Cameron disagree on the merits of Wolfenstein: The New Order's classic gameplay style.
I play RtCW again and it's a great experience like it was back in the day. Today's shooters stink, we need to return to the roots of pc gaming. Crap of duty should die or change direction or customers should just stop bying this idiocy to force developers move into the right direction.
No what they r saying is it won't appeal to the cod gen gamer who likes the same crap every year ..... None of these big devs (EA,activision and so on) know what a gamer wants.
what makes the gameplay old school? i'm not following...what about this is different from any other shooter?
this game dosent have multiplayer so it wont appeal to the COD crowd, nor the console crowd. But it will probably do well on PC. that is, if they dont make a crap game.
this is what i want: more old-skool style shooters.Todays games are far to easy. Even bioshock:infinate(which,I thought was a pretty good game} you can play the whole game and never die(the cost of dying is:pay some game cash you collected and away you go, back fighting the enemy whose health and numbers have been greatly reduced;as a result, you never die in the whole game! so whats the point.its to easy! you dont even have to try to beat the game. everybody wins! Now dont get me started on far cry 3; another disaster in my opinion.)Besides, these guys played the demo using a gamepad. Its an old skool shooter! you use a mouse and keyboard, you iot ids!
The gameplay looks pretty good so far, but why can't we see what were shooting at ? There is no lazer or aim circle ? It looked like with the two 9mm guns, that you were hitting the rail instead of the enemy, might be an issue if there is no aim ?
Nothing appeals to everybody, nothing, so what's the big deal...those who would not want to play, don't, other's enjoy like I am going to. To each his/her own.
So what they are really trying to convey here is if its not COD like and put in a arcade style form fps then you probably wont like it? Whatever bring it on the more people who hate it the more I want to play it!!
Game looks pretty generic, I doubt I'll buy it. On a completely different note, the music on this video is entirely too loud, they need to tone that down a bit if they want people to actually be able to hear what they are saying.
this game will be f*cking amazing!! do not start your mind pre-conditioning games to make us hate it beforehand!!
I really hope this isn't going to be a dud like Duke Nukem, I hope it makes a perfect balance between the oldschool theme of Wolfenstein, but expands upon that with the innovative new game engine and features that modern gaming has to offer. I looks like a solid shooter so far, nothing mindblowing, but then again we haven't seen too much.
i loved the demo I played 2nd hardest difficulty and I had to retry dozens of times but I kept on and didnt even get frustrated
That the new Wolfenstein is old-school is the best news I heard all day. It just needs secret rooms with stashes of weapons, ammo, health and armor, and I will probably LOVE it.
Looks good. I thought it did from the get-go. I mean, the visuals don't look amazing, but there are more than a few aspects that look beyond what current-gen can do, and that's good at least. The majority of the mechanics aren't new, but they're the kind of things I like in my FPS games, like leaning. It looks fun.
Ah that's super disappointing.
After seeing this I think I know exactly what kind of game it's going to be.
If it gets more than 7.5 I'll be shocked.
I remember playing a CoD game and experiencing regen HP for the first time. "This won't last long" I thought. "This is far too easy" I said. Silly me.
He didn't like the game because the health doesn't auto-refill and the gun had recoil? Um... wow.
I'm guessing to this guy, 'Wolfenstein' is just a funny name - has he never played Quake either?
Making games that won't appeal to everyone and in fact are made specifically to cater to a specific audience (in this case old school shooter fans) is perfectly fine. Not every game needs to be a mass-appeal blockbuster.
This game is going to be a dud, I just have that feeling. Bethesda are the kings of hype and utter bullshit. Fortunately for them they have the money to pay off as many reviewers and review publishers that they want to. Expect this game to get between 7.0-8.5 scores, when in reality the game is a 4.0-6.0 game.
I'm not really into FPSs, but that title makes me very excited. I like very much to see game companies that make games that are they are excited about, instead of just making a product that appeals to the most people.
old school is all good and fun and mostly a good way for publishers to exploit nostalgic fans (yeah sometime ago I would have flamed the hell out of somebody telling this exact thing to me) but it doesnt translate into a good game, is like going to to a Lamborghini factory and ask them to build you the best bicycle ever, it will still not beat whatever they would get u if u just asked them to build u a car.
wolfestein was the very first shooter I ever played, but nowadays when I look for shooters I look for something in the lines of battlefield, killzone, rage, borderlands, something that looks fresh or at least try to redefine the genera or even establish its own identity.
@Compuse dude that is sick. what is yr prodigy screen name?
@LordBadmanius they just know what like 50 million gamers want.
@themc_7 no regen health, I guess is not linear (at least is not a corridor shooter like cod) it is hard, no multiplayer, pretty much old school gameplay to me
Why would it not appeal to console crowd?
Console gameers don't like single player only games?
Yeah I think you'd be wrong about that.
@doktron But seriously, what "consequences" would you like to see? Like Dark Souls con sequences, where you lose all of your money and lose 40 minutes worth of progress? Look, everyone doesn't have the time for that shit. Sometimes, we just want a medium challenge and to enjoy the story and soak up the atmosphere. Every game doesn't need to be a 100 hour grind fest to buff a frigging stupid stat.
@pidow That's the most intelligent comment I've ever read on this site. And yes, I think I can find myself enjoying this game too. It looks really fun! Your avatar also makes your comment just that much better. Great choice.
Devs have said that this is going to have the secret areas so there is plenty of reasons to search the area for some better firepower. Also judging from this video, it looks like it might have some collectable armor also.
@Dradeeus u might want to pick up the new rise of the trials and shadow warrior
@tsunami2311 agree with the regen part. but im pretty sure u need to find cover to dodge bullets in a fps
@Onallion any idea what the name of the track is?
You're a dud. Go back to your CoD or other SGW crap.
@simon1812 Battlefield and Killzone are fresh, what? I love me some Battlefield but it is not fresh or innovative in any way shape or form at this point.
Call it what you want but it remains fact that if you can't succeed in NES Super Mario Bros, you are a casual and not a real gamer.
Been seeing this lately all over the internet about people witnessing situations where some "gamer" can't even succeed in Mario. Those 50 million people happen to be regular joes and janes without any gaming skills. So ofc they are gonna like CoD when it's the most watered down game in the history of history.
