i wonder how theyll handle draw distance as youre leaving or approaching a planet or cruising like 10000 ft up from the surface.
This game has single handedly sold me on getting the PS4.
I'm not even kidding, this looks INCREDIBLE!
Exploring a unique Universe, discovering wildlife and seamlessly travelling from one Planet to another?
HOW CAN THIS NOT BE AMAZING! I have always wanted something like this since I first became a gamer!
Love this concept. Can't wait for release! If you have a half decent PC go download a program called Space Engine. It's this but without the 'game' element. It's also set within the ENTIRE universe, not just one galaxy. Not that I'm belittling No Man's Sky.
Saying that, is this game set in one single galaxy or an entire universe made up of millions of galaxies. I only ask because some people keep saying that you can 'explore the universe'. I really don't think that's the case.
My biggest concern is how the whole universe will be stored. They said that it will be procedurally generated and yet persistent, so it needs to be stored somehow.
Dear Destiny and Star Citizen: I hope you're watching. The tools used to make this game could be groundbreaking.
Im really digging the explorer aspect, finding planets, naming them and see what each world has to offer. However knowing the internet I'm pretty sure we are going to have hundreds of planets named after phallic objects...
They should consider the minecraft model with this. Release it so people can set up their own servers on their own pc's and invite friends to join their game and play with them. Make the software one set price without adding extra prices for dlc, allow modding etc. Then release occasional content patches to add more things.
I'm really hoping these planets have some form of development. Like empty planets developing into civilizations with economy, politics and/or wildlife (think finding a memorial dedicated to the first player to set foot on the planet). Or animals evolving or going extinct? Imagine the spine tingling feeling when you arive at a long forgotten planet too see the ruins of a ancient civilization!
Think about it, this concept could open the door to a lot of pathways. As in: player professions. for example, you could be a hunter, traveling to exotic planets to catch rare creatures and selling them to the highest bidder. Or a bounty hunter, chasing down criminals and smugglers alike. The options are ENDLESS.
I don't know how strong the next-gen(or is it current-gen now?) is, but shouldn't it be possible?
I wonder how different everything will look from planet to planet. Stuff like this is great, but can lose its charm real fast if everything starts looking too much alike. Still something to watch!
one of those games you wish you never knew about until it was released kinda games, havent seen one for awhile.
This looks absolutely awesome! I really can't wait for this, being able to fly infinately anywhere pretty much on any planet sounds exactly what I wanted from a new gen game, a massive updated minecraft.. wahoooo!! just wish more was known about the actual gameplay, what kind of gameplay it'll be, whether you are crafting and making shit like minecraft, or if its more of a story driven game where you can just go anywhere....
I hope its more along the lines of minecraft though, being able to mine your own resources to get off planets and really making use of the environments and building your own stuff...
If you revisit a planet, will it look exactly the same, or is it procedurally generated each time (based on some fix parameters)?
here my reactions and its simply as this MIND BLOWN!
One more thing have anyone played Traveler the Board game?
This is what Gen 8 should be about. We've had enough of bloated games designed by non-gamer executives running down a "what's hot" checklist. The future is indie!
Cannot wait to hear/read/see more about this game. It seems to be in the same area as the Star Citizen game, focusing mostly on exploration. Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
I hadn't heard about it before and it seems a very interesting concept. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I was hoping for a game with this premise since the golden age of space sims. Looks like I'm not alone in my excitement. Fingers crossed.
I think in a video I heard them saying "It's PC game" . Owners of other platforms will be like "Meh just another indie game" , until it is announced for consoles . Then they will be like "OMG this is best game ever" .
I think I must be getting the wrong end of the stick, because this concept sounds insanely ambitious. I'd love to see how it handles black holes.
If Sony doesn't subscribe to this one I'm going to rage all over them.
@Pavlara Fuzzy logic?
@cynicritic Ikr! Ever since I remember as a kid wishing I could jump in a space ship and explore the universe. That is until I found out what it was actually like in space and the distances involved in reaching even relatively close planets and stars. This game seems to be a great substitute for the real thing, for me at least.
@rbedlam From what I've read you can travel to different galaxies. You are not just stuck in a single one. In fact, Sean Murray at Hello games has said the ultimate goal of the game, if you want to call it that, is to reach the center of the universe. (I know, the real universe doesn't have a center, but it is a game after all.)
@rbedlam Sorry for asking, but can you give the link please? I don't know if No man sky is coming to pc and i'd like to try your program
@amdreallyfast Well what I have heard before is that the big changes to planets will be persistent, so each single player may see the big changes, but their individual world will still be unique.
@ForCommenting So you're basically talking about Eve right?...
@Cloud_imperium It's actually a PS4 game right now, but it will almost certainly come out for the p.c. soon after.
@Cloud_imperium I play almost exclusively on PlayStations, and I'm not afraid to admit right now that I want this game.
@nait2k4 you are forgetting Homeworld: Shipbreakers which will be the best space game of all of these.
