now im probably going to end up buying this one too, but really disappointed by the part about both in battle ai and the campaign ai and/or the pathing etc.
Those issues have been the series biggest issues since forever and they just keep giving us more of the same. If you've played all the games this really is getting taxing to play against.
And now there are objective points which are basically an excuse for you to HAVE to attack a certain hill or strongpoint and the ai basically just gets to sit there. I don't care about elephants and war galley's I care about the men.
Not feeling the interviewer either - the elephants are not the most important thing to focus on. The dev gave a good taste of whats to come.
So right...this "relations panel" is basically what Civilization IV did AGES ago, why didn't you use that for Shogun or Empire? Muppets.
I really do not like the idea of capture points, I prefer being able to move my army from one point to another on the map without that instantly spelling defeat just because that barren hill over there had a flag on it
Wow was the interviewer trying to give this guy a panic attack or something? Everytime anything was said he would cut him off about stupid elephants... Gamestop you need to ensure your quality before you let this kind of thing happen. This game means a lot to some of your viewers and its just rude to have us get less information because of a bad interviewer....
Also just saying the interviewer was literally attacking the total war series at some point...
am i the only one put down with the whole capture points on non siege battles? i liked the maneuverability of all the other total war games. if the defensive position isnt working out, i'd fall back to another position. all a capture point does is tie your hands to a position of non importance.
look at the video from Rezzed it went in great detail about the game still some answers, but I think I can wait till the games comes out to get those answers.
As much as anyone's hating on the interviewer, I think his simple questions helped the dev answer in a less frantic manner than the IGN interview and I think there was more of a master-student dynamic here than the peer-peer one in IGN. This might probably be the video to watch if you're entirely new to the franchise. Plus he got the dev to explain the unit density concept here which was ignored on IGN. On the flip side, we never really got to hear about the unit levelling on this video, which imho really adds some depth compared to say, empire TW or the old shogun and rome games. So I think a good interview should have a mix of naivety and professionalism in order to target different demographics and to keep things light cuz after all we're not talking about the sensex here are we? To all the people who say he's new to the franchise: I highly doubt that someone who's new to the franchise would know about TW's sucky campaign AI. </rant>
No one on here knows what the fuck they're talking about. Is he rude? NO, is he childish? NO, is he unprofessional? NO, are you all fucking idiots? YES.
That was a more a troll-a-ton than an interview, someone tell this guy to stop making interviews. Game looks amazing though, looking forward to play it.
Maybe he quarreled with his girlfriend before the interview lol. Annoying guy to be watched, rude, childish, and unprofessional.
"How will it run on my PC"............? What! How The HeLL Do I Know What Kind of PC You Have! i5....i5 you mumbling pr*ck.
This is the worst interview I've ever listened to.
The interviewer is rude and uninteresting. He also has no idea how to work a mic.
Wow, the interviewer here is a total moron. I hope he gets fired. He's clearly a console gamer with a clear disrespect for PC.
At first Martin sounds a bit rude. Later on it just sounds like he is a bit nervous, but his questions werent bad.
The developer (doing a very good job) is selling the game, ofcourse all the info that he is giving is positive. The interviewer is walking right over it and i love it, because its saleschatter and it doesnt give a clear few on the state of the game. Martin is helping us to see possible flaws more then a interviewer sitting there like a nitwit agreeing with everything.
So i found this interview very helpfull. I will be sure to check the reviews before buying this as i dont want to be one of the people flodding the ca forums if the game turns out to be unfinished, buggy, etc...
After watching this interview, I felt embarrased to frequent gamespot, HOW ON EARTH did Martin Gaston ever get a chance of doing this interview? Unbelieveable..
If you wan't to look at a decent interview about Rome II, grab the one from IGN instead - this one gives you an odd feeling after watching - part omfg, Rome II is the awesomest of the awesome, and part - what an annoying kid, asking the wrong questions and wasting time with one of the best dev's around..
I hope the developer kept his composure and cool until the end of that interview just to give that guy a stern slap... with a metal gauntlet...
I have never played Total War and I have only just built a gaming PC to play games like this and Company of Heros! I have heard of Total War and still think after looking over 6 days worth of comments my parrot could have done a much better job then this absolute blundering, incompent person they are calling a journalist working for GS.
Just like everyone else I have never posted on this site but its an embarrassment that someone can be let loose on such a well respected company and game, only to act completely unimpressed and blunt to someone who travelled all the way from England to present it.. Seemed more interested in elephants then bothering to do a proper job.
"That looks a bit video-gamey"
"Do you not think that's a little too close to the next gen?"
"Where are my elephants"
What an annoying little brat. Rude and unprepared.
The intervjuer really destroyed the fun of watching this video. You are just feeling awkward and feel sorry for the other guy all the time. Completely unacceptable for a major gaming site to publish such a video. Did noone watch this garbage before taking it live? I agree, shameful display
He is absolutely right about the capture points; they do not belong in a strategy game of this scope. They are video-gamey indeed. Those ships also accelerated and moved waaaay too fast. Why can't Creative Assembly make two versions of their game? One derp version and one hardcore version. Please do so!
@JustBeYourself So, wait, because CA took an aspect from one game and implemented it in their own game, like every single other game on the market has done...they're muppets? Not to mention all the great, original, aspects every CA game brings.
Shame, cause you must hate some of the greatest games of the past decade because of that.
@lionesss im inclined to agree as well, capture points just require you to do things you wouldn't do other wise, or force you to attack in a place you wouldn't otherwise go.
if a hill is important id like to be the judge, and even if I do judge that hill to be important im going to tend to come at it as round about as possible and usually when they force you to take points like this they are drawn on maps that don't allow that kind of maneuvering.
in the end it just feels like they are trying to funnel you down places your going to take casualties.
@lionesss I agree, Im hoping its limited to Historical battles though.
He is ineed rude and unprepared. And seems tired or something becouse he is not paying attention at all. And he is very unprofessional. Ive never seen a video like this on gamespot.
@HIT3kNologyMartin Gaston ***APPROVED THIS MESSAGE***
@Spunkermonkey Its a PC game, we can just mod it when we want. =p
Seems like it may be personality traits.
Some people just aren't cut out to be an interviewer. Or anywhere near a camera, for that matter.
This interview was f*cking shameful.
@FruitMousse you consider him to be fat? lol you're not from the US are you?
There is much to criticize this guy for on a professional level, but that was just childish and bullying. You seem to miss the point completely
@Gixzr about the dumbest questions I've ever heard from a vj yet.
@asdf233 What are you talking about?
@SystemsGO dude u shouldn't disrespect console gamers by comparing this dumb ass monkey to them . this guy is hopefully a one time mistake who doesn't belong to either group. these kinda people r the kinda losers who r thirsty 4 attention ;) and would never get it, no matter how hard they try
@TheTurnedToDust In the full video during the conference he was pretty excited about bf4 despite all its flaws but as what was said before me the questions were not asking what was new too the game.. He was just uninterested and more excited about his next interview and rushed it to get it over with.
@TheTurnedToDust Oh no... I wanted to see elephants.. where are the elephants! You promised I'd get to see elephants! His whole attitude and demeanor was rude and made me feel uncomfortable.
@TheTurnedToDust If that all was true it would have been very apparent. But what we can see instead is that Martin has no clue whats going on. What the games about , or the history of the franchise. And its not a new series, its been around for ages, and has i think 5 games in the series.
How stupid would it sound if Martin had asked Halo dev. "soo how much of the time is spent in the First Person perspective?" Really? He doesnt know how much time is spent on the world map and how much on the tactical battlefield? If you are not interested in an interview, don't conduct it. If you dont know anything about the game or the platform, ask someone else to do the interview instead.
@epakille Smartass this isn't CNN. You clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about. Just pulling nonsense out of your ass.
@JasonBroady Don't know what's more stupid, your comment or your name.
I know it isnt CNN. In what way dont i know what i talk about? Did you think this was professional? Gamespot is one of the biggest gaming sites in the world. And the people working there are supposed to be journalists, not amateurs. Its not a hobby for that guy, he is getting paid.
And yes, the responsible publisher should not allow such a bad video to be posted on the site since it is now an embarrassing for the site. Look at all the comments.
