Yep, I like Master and Commander. Seeing it just now reminded me of one with Mel Gibson and a bunch of naked native Indians on a Caribbean island.
Why are so many people negative about the game? Its not even out yet and people are treating it like trash:(
I really wish Gamespot stop this affiliate link fest, called "the waiting game" and make better usage of Johnny's talent.
Its sad that the game directors from the AC game series don't make a game about the
First Barbary War .
Muslim pirates from the Barbary (North African) coast, authorised by their governments, were active in seizing and enslaving white Christians from western Europe from the 16th to the 18th century. They attacked not only ships but also coastal villages. While Spain and Italy bore the brunt of these attacks, the Barbary pirates often called corsairs would also go to Portugal, France, England, Ireland and even Iceland. The slaves were kept in wretched conditions and many were worked to death, especially those unfortunate enough to be chosen to row the corsair galleys.
Between 1530 and 1780 at least a million white Christian Europeans were enslaved on the Barbary coast. Around the year 1600 there were estimated to be some 35,000 in captivity there at any one time. Many records of the letters sent home, telling of the terrible sufferings the slaves were enduring, still exist. Some converted to Islam in order to get easier duties or, in the case of women in the harems, to stay with their children who were being brought up as Muslims.
The slaves' only hope lay in being redeemed by payment of a ransom. Churches collected offerings for this purpose. Many of those who went to North Africa with funds to negotiate the release of the slaves were church leaders. In Spain and Italy ransoming slaves was considered an act of great merit: "Their [only] fault, their crime, is recognising Jesus Christ as the most divine Saviour ... and of professing Him as the True Faith."
English slaves were largely neglected by their home country, especially in comparison with those from southern European countries. They knew this, and were demoralised. An "Algerian Duty" was set aside from the customs income in England to redeem slaves, but much of it was diverted to other uses. Many English slaves died in captivity.
Except the research part (simply haven't got the time to go through all that but kudos to Johnny for not just listing films and games!), I recommend everything mentioned. All those films are great and its about time we had an up to date action adventure pirate game. Just wish it was seperate from the Assassins Creed universe.
I was kind of excited for AC4 until I saw the commercials with "started from the bottom now we here"...
Anyone else slightly disappointed that there's no mention of Muppet Treasure Island? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHNJPsCDSqo
Sid Meier's Pirates: knew that would be on here before I clicked the video, how is it; that game is the only decent pirate era game that has come out in the last 15 years. tropic 2: pirate cove, was alright, but you were stuck in the cove the whole time, its time for an 2014 version of Sid Meier's Pirates (of course it doesn't have to be a Sid Meier's game) just not another "Assassins in space" type game.
I like this game... very nice indeed.. I only hope that crazy white blur around animals and humans disapear... freaking shiny beavers!!
I'm waiting for a price drop. Should be entertaining to see what lols Ubi created for the animus drama.
i don't understand why nobody ever mentions Pirates of the caribbean, the first pc game that came out, it's a much better game than sid meier's pirates (when it comes to similar to AC4).
Do you think you guys can do an episode on the series Killer instinct since the game will be a launch title for the Xbox1? Just a suggestion
It's the one game coming to next gen I don't care for. Sorry but enoughs enough. Changing the environment isn't going to forget tha fact I have moved on and now feel the AC gameplay repetitive from it never, ever changing.
@python1026 the game is out on console piracy, go console users!
@python1026 unfortunately AC3 left a bad taste in a lot of mouths..... I imagine this wont though.
@invoked-archer Because the game looks awesome as an assassin game and a pirate game.
@DigitalDame a bit, but they did have the UK version of the Muppets listed
@ziggyww I agree Ubish** always bullsh** about the next AC, but in the end it's the same as its predecessor, AC4 "seems" different but because of what happened before I won't buy it.
@ziggyww I liked AC 2, Brotherhood was okay and Revelations was fun but AC 3 was really boring but it had a good revenge story to it.
@legomyego21 What about Bethesda's Pirates of the Caribbean? That was pretty good and a bit similar to Sid Meiers.
@legomyego21 Raven's Cry... coming out tomorrow
@SipahSalar So that you could find this page or its amazon link?
@AlexDaedric Connor has no sense of humor.
@Korvus85 I ask you to join the club, but its already rather full :D
